In Algiers, Dr. Jean Kaseya, Director General of Africa CDC, joined Prof. Mohamed Seddik Ait Messaoudene, Minister of Health of Algeria, alongside other members of the Algerian Government and partners to deepen the strategic partnership between Africa CDC and Algeria and advance the development of an African curriculum on Health Technology Assessment (HTA).

The discussions focused on advancing shared priorities, including positioning Algeria as a continental reference for Health Technology Assessment (HTA) and strengthening collaboration on local pharmaceutical and vaccine manufacturing, pooled procurement, regulatory systems, genomics, digital health, and research.

Through stronger partnerships and African-led solutions, Africa CDC and AU Member States are working towards a continent that can define, develop, and deliver the health solutions needed to protect its people.

Clinical trials evaluating Ebola therapeutics are now underway in the DRC, marking an important milestone in strengthening the outbreak response through science and innovation.

Africa CDC is thrilled to launch its first cohort of Public Financial Management (PFM) specialists and champions dedicated to transforming health financing across Africa!

These experts are at the forefront of driving the Lusaka Agenda, building resilient, sustainable, and sovereign health systems for every African. Deployed in 11 Member States and four Regional Collaborating Centres, they are laying the groundwork for Africa CDC’s vision to empower all 55 African Union Member States.

At our HQ, a dynamic onboarding and strategic planning workshop united global health partners, including The Global Fund, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, UNICEF, the World Health Organization (WHO), UNAIDS, CHAI, and the UK FCDO. During this workshop, specialists set bold priorities, crafted a powerful operational framework, and strengthened collaboration for a healthier Africa.

Since the start of the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, 112 health workers have been infected with the Bundibugyo virus, 35 of whom have tragically lost their lives in the line of duty.

The recent infection of a U.S. humanitarian worker in Bunia is a powerful reminder: those who risk everything to protect us must be protected themselves.

Africa CDC stands with the Governments of DRC and Uganda, working through the Continental Incident Management Support Team (IMST) and African Union Member States to ensure frontline responders have the personal protective equipment, training, safe working conditions, and sustained support they need.

Africa CDC Director General Dr. Jean Kaseya and WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus met in Geneva to discuss the ongoing joint continental Ebola response following the rise in new infections in the DRC.

Response teams continue to focus on surveillance, contact tracing, laboratory testing, case management, infection prevention and control, risk communication, and community engagement in the affected areas.

During the discussions, the two leaders also announced plans for a joint visit to the DRC, including Bunia.

Congratulations to the Republic of Rwanda on becoming the second African country to graduate a SPARK-NCD FETP Frontline cohort.

This milestone reflects Rwanda's commitment to strengthening the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) through a skilled public health workforce, stronger data systems, and evidence-based decision-making.

Over the past three months, participants completed an intensive programme combining online learning, mentorship, practical field implementation, and peer collaboration—equipping them to improve NCD surveillance, prevention, and care.

Africa CDC applauds Rwanda's leadership and remains committed to supporting Member States in scaling the SPARK-NCD model to build stronger, more resilient health systems across Africa.

En appui au Gouvernement congolais, Africa CDC renforce la riposte contre Ebola en RDC à travers le déploiement d’équipes d’experts multidisciplinaires dans les zones de santé prioritaires, qui représentent 83 % des cas, dans le cadre de l’approche de décentralisation de la riposte.

Dès leur arrivée, ces équipes ont mené des évaluations rapides et élaboré, en collaboration avec les équipes cadres des zones de santé, des plans d’intensification comprenant le renforcement des capacités et le déploiement de relais communautaires.

Africa CDC reste engagé aux côtés du Gouvernement et du Ministère de la santé/RDC, pour rapprocher les interventions des communautés et les placer au cœur de la riposte.

At yesterday’s media briefing, Dr Wessam Mankoula called for immediate expansion of treatment capacity to keep pace with the outbreak.
