To support Kenya’s ongoing response to Bundibugyo virus disease, Africa CDC handed over 500 doses of Remdesivir to Mary Muthoni, Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards in Nairobi.

The Government of Rwanda donated the antiviral therapeutic for compassionate use at the Government of Kenya’s request, following bilateral coordination facilitated by Africa CDC.

Africa CDC will also support healthcare worker training and facilitate the deployment of experts from Uganda to strengthen clinical care. This collaboration demonstrates African solidarity and the Africa Health Security and Sovereignty Agenda in action.

Timely, accurate information is essential as Kenya’s Ebola situation evolves.

Africa CDC supported Kenya’s Ministry of Health and the Kenya National Public Health Institute to convene editors and journalists for a Media Engagement and Sensitisation on Ebola Preparedness and Response on 14-15 October 2026 in Nairobi, with participation from WHO.

The engagement came at a critical time, connecting media professionals directly with health experts to clarify questions about Ebola and strengthen accurate, responsible reporting.

Discussions focused on verifying information, addressing misinformation and protecting the dignity of affected people. Participants also highlighted the need for continued access to credible sources and practical reporting guidance as the response progresses.

In three days, a single Ebola case moved from the DRC through Uganda into Kenya. Dr Wesam Mankoula, Director of Emergency at the Africa RCC of Africa CDC describes how the case travelled.

He also explains how Africa CDC brought Kenya, the DRC and Uganda together within 24 hours to share information, trace the case’s movement and strengthen contact tracing. It is a clear example of why regional coordination matters when outbreaks cross borders.

Africa CDC reaffirms its support to Kenya following the confirmation of four additional Ebola cases.

Kenya has now reported seven cases, including one death. Three of the newly confirmed cases involve healthcare workers.

All four new cases were detected among individuals already in quarantine, underscoring the importance of active surveillance, contact tracing and early detection in containing transmission.

Africa CDC commends the Government of Kenya for its leadership and swift public health response.

As the outbreak continues in the DRC, Africa CDC is working closely with national authorities and regional partners to strengthen cross-border coordination, support frontline health workers and protect communities.

Ethiopia’s media are joining preparations for ! 🇪🇹

Today in Addis Ababa, Africa CDC and Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health, with support from the Government Communication Service, briefed journalists from national, regional and private media on the 5th International Conference on Public Health in Africa.

The discussion focused on raising public awareness, encouraging participation and strengthening health reporting through timely, verified information, expert access and continued engagement beyond the conference.

CPHIA 2026 will take place in Addis Ababa from 23–27 November under the theme:

Africa’s Health Security and Sovereignty: Transformation from Health Dependency and Vulnerability to Ownership and Resilience.
