Its good that MOH shared unprecedented exemplary initiative that has never been done in our country by any hospitals before.
As part of summer nation wide free summer health care services provision program the departmen of obstetrics and gynecology at Haramaya University HFSUH, we decided to reachout pregnant to provide free comprehensive free obstetrics care including ultrasound scanning to pregnant mother from surrounding rural community by traveling to heath center at the vicinity, where most of them barely get chance to have ANC care service by senior specialist.
We identified 4 health centers at remote rural place in east hararge zone with higher delivery number and referral to our hospitals of women with obtetrics complications.
In total total provide care for:80(Jarso)+164(kombolcha) + 92(babile)+ 124(fedis)= 462 mothers over 3 days.
Number of high risk mothers that we identied and reffered them to our hospital is: (10+24+22+7)=63 with variety of obstetrics complication both emergent and non emergency
Next week we will continue our free services provision in selected health centers in rural Harari region( Sofi,Hasengey, Erer and Aratenya).
With early Identification and referral at least for some period of time we will bring down the continously sustained higher Maternal Mortality in our vicinity(Eastern Ethiopia).
HFSUH and MOH should work on way how to consistently continue to provide such practices and expand this practice to all parts of communities at rural Ethiopia.
