South Sudan! 🇸🇸
Happy birthday to the world's youngest country... and condolences to its oldest problems.
To our beloved leaders: thank you for your tireless dedication to holding meetings about meetings, forming committees to supervise committees, and launching projects that exist only in PowerPoint presentations😭😭
Our roads have become so adventurous that Google Maps should simply say, "May God be with you."😂😂
The national budget must be playing hide-and-seek, because the people keep hearing about it, but nobody seems to know where it went.
Every Independence Day we hear:"This is the year of transformation."At this point, the only thing transforming is another promise into another excuse.
Our leaders have mastered one world record: giving speeches about development while standing in front of unfinished development.
Even mosquitoes have become government employees they collect blood from the public every day and never seem to retire.
If excuses were exports, South Sudan's economy would be the strongest in Africa.
But here's the truth: governments come and go. The people remain. It is the ordinary South Sudanese—the farmers, teachers, doctors, nurses, students, traders, drivers, mothers, and fathers who keep this nation alive despite every disappointment.
So today we celebrate not because everything is working, but because our hope is stronger than our frustration, our unity is stronger than our divisions, and our love for South Sudan is greater than any politician's promise.
Happy Independence Day, South Sudan🇸🇸
May next year's celebration include fewer ribbon-cutting ceremonies, fewer "historic announcements,fewer miracle promises... and at least one road that doesn't need divine intervention.
