Urgent Humanitarian Appeal: Assistance Required for Newly Arrived IDPs in Akobo East
To: UN Agencies, International NGOs, Humanitarian Partners
Cc: Donor Agencies, Relief Organizations, Faith-Based Organizations, Civil Society Networks
Dear Partners,
We are issuing an urgent humanitarian appeal regarding the rapidly deteriorating situation in Akobo East, where newly displaced populations have arrived from Walgak, Nyirol County, and Uror County.
Current field reports confirm that more than 5,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) have reached Akobo East within a short period. Many arrived with no assets or supplies and are currently sheltering in open areas and within overstretched host communities. Immediate intervention is required to prevent loss of life and further human suffering.
Priority Needs Identified:
Emergency food assistance and nutrition support
Safe drinking water and water treatment supplies
Emergency shelter materials (tarpaulins, blankets, sleeping mats)
Primary healthcare services and essential medicines
Sanitation and hygiene kits
Protection services for children, women, elderly persons, and people with disabilities
Non-food items for newly arrived households
We respectfully request rapid deployment of assessment and response teams, pre-positioning of relief supplies, and coordinated multi-sectoral support. Strengthening coordination, registration, and protection monitoring is also urgently needed. Support to host communities is equally critical, as they are sharing already limited resources.
We kindly ask all UN agencies and humanitarian partners to treat this as a priority emergency response and mobilize available resources as soon as possible.
Thank you for your immediate attention and collaboration.
Sincerely,
Concern citizen of Akobo County
