A professional development session titled “Introduction to Life Onboard for Female Cadets” was conducted to prepare female cadets for the transition from training to life at sea. The session focused on equipping cadets with the knowledge, expectations, and professional attitudes necessary to navigate their roles safely and effectively before joining their respective vessels.
Key topics addressed during the session included expectations upon joining a vessel, professional behaviour and attitude, punctuality, adapting to life onboard, common mistakes made by cadets, areas for personal improvement, establishing appropriate boundaries, the importance of goal setting, and access to counselling and support services. The session provided cadets with practical guidance intended to strengthen their professional preparedness and support a successful transition into the maritime workplace.
Special appreciation is extended to Cpt Henry Sagaitu, Director of PCMS, for his continued support in facilitating requests and providing access to the facility for the session.
Appreciation is also extended to the guest speakers, Cpt Tomasi Kete and Ms. Eldine Glees, for their valuable contributions to the programme.
Thank you to all our female cadets for attending and we wish you all the very best in your upcoming exams⚓️🛳️🌊
This session represents the beginning of a series of professional development sessions planned for members, with further initiatives intended to support their continued growth, preparedness, and development within the maritime sector.
