has dipped his creative genius into the world of chocolate, and while it may appear on the top of tourists to-do list I can attest that locals also enjoy the sweet taste of Monsieur Grolet’s edible crafts.
Just a hop, skip and a jump away from the Original Pâtisserie, I felt as though I had stepped into a modern day W***y Wonka factory. Streams of silky molten chocolate ran down the wall used as a backdrop to the chocolatiers assisting customers in their search for a Valentine’s gift for their lovers, or perhaps for themselves, an act of self-love.
Oversized chocolate creations made into statues of a peanut, a lemon, a cacao pod, oh my, adorned the street window for on-lookers to “ooooh” and “aaaahhh” and drool over.
After providing one of the staff my click & collect number she wistfully disappeared, approaching a few moments later, lighting up when she found me amongst the sea of people posing for photos next to bars of chocolate like they were little George Clooneys. She motioned to a glass dome next to the computer that a moment ago was empty but now contained a small brown bag of my box of chocolates that had been zoomed up from below. I imagined Oompa Loompas hard at work (but not too hard) handing the sacred box of dark chocolates from one to the other until they reached the throne and were suspended up up up, oh so perfectly timed, to be presented to moi. ❤️🫶🙏
