Warwickshire to Calais Refugee Trip

Warwickshire to Calais Refugee Trip Tash, Soph and Trudy are raising funds & taking a trip to the camp in Jan '16 to support a pop-up community kitchen and donate useful building materials!

We're volunteers from Leamington Spa and Swindon, in association with Kitchen in Calais, inspired by the UK civilians' response to the refugee crisis, which has been so positive with grassroots efforts to provide relief being put into action all over the country. We support the refugees' and their plight for safety and we are against the Governments decision to bomb Syria. As a result we want to s

how our support in some way, so are raising funds to take to Calais with us in 2016, funding our own way there, with all proceeds going towards buying what is most needed upon arrival (as needs are changing all the time). We leave - Thursday 21st Jan
We return - Monday 25th Jan

We are aiming to support a community initiative called Kitchen in Calais , where we will volenteer our time towards cooking for and feeding up to 700 people a day!! All the proceeds you help us raise will fund the kitchen. This could be anything from gas, pots, pans, cleaning products, food and water. We are also taking a van which we would like to fill to the brim with building tools and materials as the building team out there are in deperate need for more materials. If you feel you could donate anything let us know on the email address below. So our main aims are :
- Help raise as much money before 21st Jan
- Voluntary help or ideas
- Material donations before 21st Jan

If you can help with any of the above please contact Tash, Soph or Trudy on the email address:

Omar is one of many unaccompanied minors living in the camp known as the "Jungle" in Calais. He drew some of his experiences. We worked with him to bring his illustrations to life.

Everyone who was dedicated to helping feed refugees in Calais!

Final Update!!

So, we did it! Thanks to everyone we raised approximately £1800 (after GoFundMe fees) which is a staggering amount!

We transferred £1000 to Kitchen in Calais before our arrival which was received graciously and gratefully. We were informed that the money will help enormously with the running costs of the kitchen, such as gas for cooking, fuel for the generator and vehicle and odds and sods like buying plates and cleaning equipment.

Our time with Kitchen in Calais was unforgettable and invaluable. We worked alongside other volunteers and refugees to chop hundreds of carrots, onions, potato's, cucumber, lettuce, tomato's and garlic in order to serve dinner to at least a thousand refugees each evening. It was hard work but at the same time so rewarding. Sofinee and Jamal who run the kitchen are wonderful selfelss human beings.

We transferred the remaining money to a friend of Kitchen in Calais who runs a soup kitchen in Lesvos, cooking for the hundreds every day who arrive off the boats. The donation was not expected and the kitchen was so thankful. We are happy that we were able to spread our help further afield in Europe.

Our fundraising page is now closed, but we are looking to do more trips again in the future and will find a page that does not charge a hefty fees!

We couldn't have done this without any of you, so thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, and on behalf of the refugees we met and worked alongside in Calais.

There's still time to donate. We're here, and Kitchen in Calais is doing absolutely incredible work. We are in awe.

We have reached our original £1000 target!!!!!!! Along with offline donations we have just over £1500 to take with us, along with a van full of donations as they're coming in thick and fast. We are so overwhelmed by everyone's generosity so thanks so much.

We've decided that if we can stretch the target and meet £2000 we will send any additional funds from here-on-in to a charity working on the ground in Greece (charity to be confirmed).

There are around 7,000 people living in the Calais refugee camp just across the water from us. They each have their own story to tell about the loved ones they have left behind, the terror they hav...
