Take me to the place where civility, kindness and respect reign 🫣
It’s important to know what’s going on in the world and it’s ok to put the headlines down when you’re feeling overwhelmed.
When you find yourself doomscrolling, here are a few tips to help you consume information with intention!
📚Read from a variety of (vetted) sources and interest topics. Find a balance between hard news and softer topics.
⭐️ Check your sources against a media bias chart 2-3 times a year.
🚩 Increase your media literacy by asking questions. Who is writing this? Who owns this publication? How is this article trying to influence me?
⭐️ Loaded words, sweeping generalizations, name calling and extremes are common markers for propaganda! It’s important to recognize that and name it when you see it.
☕️ Stay local. When the world feels heavy, find the good in your neighborhood (literally!). Call a friend, strike up a conversation with a neighbor, scan the high school athletic stats!
⭐️ Focusing on local news helps create a smaller world and provides a sense of purpose and connection.
Following these guidelines will also sharpen your small talk skills! 🙌
