🚀 Driving innovation in Healthcare!

The NHSG Innovation Hub is dedicated to exploring how digital innovation can enhance and transform everyday healthcare delivery.

One of our latest initiatives has been featured by STV News, highlighting the commitment of NHS Grampian staff in trialling technology designed to benefit both patients and clinicians.

This project focuses on the use of ambient voice technology to reduce administrative burden, enabling healthcare professionals to devote more time to meaningful patient interactions. By facilitating more natural conversations and producing clear, structured clinical notes, this innovation is supporting a more efficient, patient-centred approach to care.🌟

We were thrilled to be included in John Swinney MSP, First Minister's visit to ARI NHS Grampian on Monday and we were proud to showcase the impact of our GRACE project. 👏
It was a great opportunity to highlight how AI is strengthening the lung cancer pathway — supporting earlier detection, faster treatment, and better outcomes for patients. 🌟
We’re excited by the First Minister's enthusiasm to hear more about our wider innovation work and what’s coming next.

Background Information on the GRACE Project:
NHS Grampian Innovation Hub’s GRACE project launched in 2022 across 13 sites to evaluate the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the detection of lung cancer. The success of this project has gone from strength-to-strength, it is now embedded in NHS Grampian's lung cancer pathway and, with the support of the Accelerated National Innovation Adoption Pathway team, it is hoped the process can be used in lung cancer care across Scotland.

We’re excited to be piloting innovative ambient voice technology at Donbank Ward, Inverurie Hospital 🏥 NHS Grampian

Led by the NHSG Innovation Hub and supported by Aberdeenshire Health & Social Care Partnership - AHSCP, this pilot explores how new technology could reduce administration burden and give clinical staff more time for meaningful, person‑centred care.

We’re looking forward to seeing where this type of innovation could lead for the future of healthcare across NHS Grampian.

NHS Grampian trials new ambient voice technology to enhance patient care

NHSG Innovation Hub has launched a three‑month pilot of innovative ambient voice technology with the support of Aberdeenshire Health & Social Care Partnership - AHSCP. The tech is designed to reduce time spent on paperwork for staff and enhance meaningful, person‑centred conversations with patients.

The trial, which will continue until mid‑May, is taking place in Inverurie Hospital’s Donbank Ward, where 13 staff nurses – and patients in hospital who consent to taking part – are helping to test how well this type of technology works in a real clinical setting.

The NHSG Innovation Hub is proud to be collaborating with colleagues at Western Isles Hospital (NHS Western Isles) and Dr Gray's Hospital, Elgin (NHS Grampian) on an exciting NHS North of Scotland Innovation Hub project commissioned by the Centre for Sustainable Delivery (CfSD). This initiative aims to assess Clopidogrel resistance in stroke patients using an innovative point-of-care testing device – Genedrive®.

Running alongside CfSD’s national rollout of lab-based testing, this is the first project of its kind to be coordinated across the NHS North of Scotland Innovation Hub with teams from the two health boards, NHS Grampian and NHS Western Isles, working collaboratively to deliver the initiative.

While all health boards have access to laboratory services, remote and rural communities often face delays due to the need to transport samples over long distances for specialist testing. With this new device, results can be available in as little as 69 minutes, enabling patients to receive the right treatment at the right time.
Over the next 12 months, the project team will monitor performance across both sites and compare results with those from national testing centres. Findings will be evaluated and shared with colleagues across Scotland to inform future service delivery.

AI award success for GEMINI project

The collaborative team behind GEMINI scooped the coveted 'Data Driven Innovation Award' at this year's Digital Health and Care Awards.

The GEMINI (Grampian’s Evaluation of Mia in an Innovative National breast screening Initiative) project was devised to understand the impact of introducing AI into the breast screening programme at NHS Grampian.

The multidisciplinary team, including experts from NHS Grampian, the University of Aberdeen and Kheiron Medical Technologies Ltd. – which is now part of DeepHealth – was awarded the accolade at a ceremony in Edinburgh on Tuesday night (18 February).
