If you’d told me a year ago that I’d go on holiday and not eat a single crisp, I’d have laughed at you. 🤩

For years, holidays meant bags of crisps, chocolate, beer, and constantly thinking about what I was going to eat next. The food noise was always there. 🍺

But something has changed.

Since improving my metabolic health through ketosis and then maintaining it with a low-carb lifestyle, those foods just don’t have the same pull over me anymore.

I haven’t had a crisp since September 2025, and if you’ve known me for any length of time, you’ll know that’s something nobody thought possible!

What’s fascinating is that it doesn’t feel like willpower. It doesn’t feel like deprivation. It feels like freedom. 💪

The constant cravings have quietened. The obsession with food has faded. My brain no longer spends all day negotiating with itself. ❤️

And for so many women in their 40s, 50s and beyond, who feel trapped by food noise, weight gain, cravings and the rollercoaster of perimenopause, I want you to know this:

You are not destined to feel out of control around food.

When you improve your metabolic health, your relationship with food changes dramatically.

You feel calm around foods that once had a hold over you. You can trust yourself again. You can lose weight without feeling miserable or deprived.

If I can walk past crisps and dark chocolate without a second thought, then change is absolutely possible.

The scale isn’t moving.
Your clothes feel different.

This is perimenopause.

Here’s what’s actually happening beneath the surface.

Your body is storing more fat differently now. Visceral fat builds up around your organs. It drives inflammation. It makes weight loss feel impossible, no matter how hard you try.

Breakfast matters more in midlife than most women realise. 🍳🥚🍳

This is my regular breakfast: scrambled eggs cooked in a little butter with cheese, alongside a creamy coffee.

Simple, satisfying, and designed to support my metabolism rather than spike my blood sugar first thing in the morning.

A breakfast built around protein and healthy fats helps keep me full for hours, crushes food noise, steadies my mood and energy, and fuels my brain without sending me onto the blood sugar roller coaster that so many women unknowingly live on.

For women in their 40s, 50s and beyond, metabolic health has to move to the forefront of our priorities.

During perimenopause and menopause, blood sugar instability and insulin resistance can make symptoms worse — contributing to fatigue, cravings, brain fog, inflammation, weight gain, poor sleep and low energy.

And over time, poor metabolic health can become the foundation for more serious lifestyle-driven diseases such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease and even Alzheimer’s disease.

We all need SUNLIGHT. 🌅

Even on a grey, rainy dog walk in the UK like today… your body is still receiving important light signals.

One of the most powerful things you can do for your hormones, sleep, energy and mood in perimenopause and menopause is to get outside within the first hour of waking and look towards the direction of the sunrise.

Because your body is constantly communicating with light.

Morning light tells your brain:
☀️ what time of day it is
☀️ when to naturally raise cortisol for energy and focus
☀️ when to switch melatonin off
☀️ how to regulate your circadian rhythm — your internal body clock

And this matters more than ever in midlife, when so many women are struggling with fatigue, weight gain, poor sleep, anxiety, brain fog and feeling completely out of sync.

What most people don’t realise is that sunrise light is richer in infrared light frequencies, which are deeply supportive for our cells, mitochondria and overall health.

Emma shared today that during her pelvic floor chair session, she could really feel tightness and tension around her sacrum starting to release and loosen up ✨

She also said the whole area definitely felt lighter afterwards.

Week 2 of my client’s 10-week keto journey… and her body is already starting to switch over ✨

She’s now producing ketones, and one of the first things she’s noticed is improved blood sugar regulation.

What does that actually look like in real life?

✔️ Hunger feels calmer
✔️ Appetite no longer feels urgent
✔️ Cravings are starting to reduce
✔️ She had dinner and didn’t automatically want something sweet afterwards

That’s a huge shift for many women.

We are still working on getting electrolytes right — which is SO important in the early stages of keto — but her energy is already improving and she’s starting to feel the benefits.

Interestingly, she’s also heading into ovulation, which can often be a time where women notice stronger carbohydrate cravings due to hormonal shifts. So it’ll be really interesting to see how the next couple of weeks unfold.

One thing I always explain is this:

Keto is incredibly clever.
