Forehead lines: dynamic vs static wrinkles 💉

This before-and-after image shows the effect of treatment on dynamic forehead lines – the lines that appear when we raise our eyebrows or make facial expressions.

Dynamic lines develop over time as the forehead muscles repeatedly contract. Initially, these lines are only visible during movement, but as the skin loses collagen and elasticity with age, they can begin to remain visible even when the face is at rest. These are known as static lines.

The aim of treatment is not to “freeze” the face, but to carefully reduce excessive muscle activity while maintaining natural facial expression. Every treatment plan should be individualised, taking into account factors such as muscle strength, facial anatomy, age, skin quality and the patient’s desired outcome.

It’s also important to understand that muscle-relaxing treatments improve the appearance of wrinkles caused by movement, but they don’t directly improve skin quality. For some patients, combining treatments with a good skincare routine, SPF, skin boosters, microneedling or other collagen-stimulating treatments may provide the most comprehensive results.

As a nurse prescriber, my approach is always centred around patient assessment, education and evidence-based practice, ensuring clients understand both the benefits and limitations of any treatment before making an informed decision.

Results vary between individuals. Consultation and suitability assessment required. Prescription-only treatments can only be prescribed following a face-to-face consultation with an appropriately qualified prescriber.
