A few people have been aware this new service but for those who don’t know performance profiles are a commonplace for many athletes in many sports!

Finding out exactly what qualities you are good at or need to improve is invaluable for making the decisions to make the most of the your training!

Less guess work, more time training the qualities that actually matter!

First proper use of the force platforms with my client Paul.
Paul suffered a subarachnoid haemorrhage in 2020 the survival rate of this type of haemorrhage is only 60%.
50% of those who survive suffer with neurological complications.

We’ve worked together for the past 3 years, in that time every bit of progression we’ve made has been hard fought for and well earned, people who work as hard as Paul are rare!
Introducing these force plates has given us the chance to really track differences and improvements in the asymmetries caused by Paul’s haemorrhage, I would of loved to of had this data 3 years ago to really quantify how far he’s already come!

8 slides with a lot of words, engagement with this will be awful! If you’re at all interested in strongman please persevere to the end and tell me your thoughts!

It’s something I’m quite passionate about, Strongman is unique in that it sits somewhere between a sport and a spectacle.

Any sport that starts as a circus act was always going to be odd!

I’ve thrown a lot of random thoughts into this post, hopefully it’s some level of coherent but if there’s anything I’ve poorly explained or you disagree with let’s open up the conversation!

Some professional federations like Official Strongman Games deserve a shout out for their online qualifiers that massively help athletes make that transition into higher level competitions but there’s still a long way to go before Strongman is treated like a professional sport and not just a tv show at Christmas.

That’s where the amateur level comes in people like Evolution Strength and Fitness Aylesford The Cell Promotions Go out of their way to keep the sport alive hosting competitions for little to no reward!
If the amateur level competitions stop happening, the professional level will follow and will be back in car parks instead of stadiums!

Support the smaller promotors and gyms before it’s too late. So many strongman gyms have closed down in the last few years, if there’s no opportunities or spaces for athletes to develop then there’s no future in the sport!

Do I do all of these every session? No.
Sometimes I need more, sometimes less. There is no one size fits all.

I and most people don’t have time to do warm ups that mobilise and activate separately. That’s why these movements work well for me. I’m working through a range whilst also activating muscles with some band resistance.

If you’re someone who doesn’t have time for warm ups, consider adding one or two of the movements above or similar. It would take less than 5 minutes and set you up much better for your specific barbell warm ups!

Now I’m not going to pretend I do these every session!

Sometimes my warm ups are almost non-existent, just warming up with a bar and going straight into it is fine when I’m short on time and already feeling pretty good!

Other days I need that extra time to get my mind focused as well as my body ready!

It’s occurred to me that many people aren’t quite clear on who I am and what I do!

Many of my wonderful, loyal recurring clients know me for sports massage whether that’s general maintenance or competition preparation.

It’s led to an image of being the guy who’s good at sports massage, I’ll wear that badge proudly and sports massage as a service isn’t going anywhere!

This is just a reminder that less than 5% of my education was dedicated to manual therapies like sports massage and mobilisations.

Now my MSc in Sports Performance, Strength & Conditioning is practically finished, my time is freeing up and I’ll be more active here sharing educational posts about injuries and performance!

Drop a comment if there’s any topics you want to know more about and I’ll add them to my list!

Tendons are the moody teenagers of the injury world, one day you feel like you’ve finally figured it and then they react with a vengeance!

Patience and consistency are the two most important characteristics to develop if you’re experience tendon pain, they will get better you just need to stay positive!

Everyone including myself is guilty of making mistakes, not putting enough effort in, ignoring small things that turn into bigger problems.

Manage your session load by how reactive your tendons are on that day! You may find you have to change the variables in your planned session to provide the right stimulus without aggravating it even more!

Remember that a level of discomfort is to be expected but shouldn’t not be wholly ignored, if the pain is increasing every rep/ set then take a step back and reassess your next steps!
