There is so much focus in pregnancy on what to buy, what week baby is the size of a fruit, and making sure the hospital bag is packed…
But not always enough honest conversation about how labour can actually feel.
A lot of mums are going into birth feeling anxious, unsure and like they’re just meant to wing it.
The truth is birth prep is not about being perfect or having some dreamy “ideal” birth.
It’s about understanding your options, knowing what support can look like, and feeling a bit more grounded before labour starts.
You deserve more than just hoping for the best.
You deserve to feel informed and supported too.
If you’re pregnant and feeling a bit unsure about labour, you are definitely not the only one 🤍
Here are 5 things I wish more mums knew before labour starts…
1. Labour doesn’t always start with a big dramatic moment…
It can start slowly with cramps, tightenings, backache or just that feeling of
“hmm… is this it?”
2. You’re allowed to ask questions and have options…
You do not have to just go along with everything and hope for the best.
You can ask what your options are and what things actually mean.
3. Staying calm is not about being super chilled
It’s about feeling safe, supported and understanding what’s happening.
That can make a huge difference.
4. Birth partners need prepped too
Because support matters.
A birth partner who knows how to help can make things feel much less overwhelming.
5. Labour is mental as well as physical
It’s not just about what your body is doing.
Your mindset, your environment and how supported you feel matter too.
Birth prep is not about having a perfect birth,
It’s about feeling less scared, less overwhelmed and more prepared for what’s ahead.
Save this for later, follow along for more or tag a mum-to-be who might need to read it.
