Gluten is a Joke

Have you seen the new Documentary "Gluten is a Joke" currently running on Prime Video?

Through comedy, expert interviews, and absurd reenactments, Gluten is a Joke investigates how celiac disease became the punchline of a cultural joke and the real world consequences for millions who have no choice but to live gluten free.

It's not only worthwhile viewing for Coeliacs who often feel "alone" in the world but for the general public who very often have no idea what it means to live life "Gluten free"!

Gluten is a Joke is a powerful documentary exploring how gluten-free living became a punchline in pop culture and the real harm behind the humor. For many, what is dismissed as a trend is a serious medical necessity.

FREE Gluten Free Living Workshop

On Wednesday (14/10/26) Tina and I attended an excellent free Gluten Free Living Workshop in Lisburn (Co Antrim). It was organised by Safefood and run in conjunction with Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council.

The event included a demonstration on how to prepare a gluten free kitchen and an interesting and witty talk by expert dietitian Sarah Keogh who discussed nutrient deficiencies, common mistakes and hidden sources of gluten.

If you are Coeliac or suffer with non-coeliac gluten sensitivity then this free event is for you!
Well attended events have already been held in Antrim and Lisburn but there are three more in the pipeline, Newtownards in Co Down on the 20th October, Derry/Londonderry on the 21st October and Bushmills on the 22nd October.

Gluten Free Food search Apps

I'm pretty certain most of our Followers are aware of Apps such as Find Me Gluten Free which are a real boon when looking for food in a strange location!

Well, we have a new kid on the block, Elios Table, and we reckon it will be another great help to the Coeliac population!
The lady who created the App, Lucinda, told me about it and suggested I take a look to see if it something we would be willing to mention in our website etc.

When I investigated - eliostable.com I was very surprised to see it is based in Australia and wondered how relevant it would be to us here on the Island of Ireland.

I decided to start with our hometown of Ballynahinch, not expecting too much, but how wrong I was! Every eating place I know to be Coeliac friendly in the town is listed including detailed information about the premises.

I checked a number of other locations in Ireland and found the information useful so we reckon Elios Table is well worth checking out!

Dunnes
One of our Followers sent us a note to say that Dunnes has a gluten free black bean ready made sauce. Have you seen it in your local Dunnes?

They also have gluten free spinach pasta in fresh section which I've seen on their website. Worth looking for!

We're told their small packet sauces are mostly all gluten free, Chow Mein, Sweet Sour katsu curry.

Check if they are suitable for you!
