On Friday (8 May), Plaid Cymru won the most seats in the Senedd election. However, they did not get enough seats for a majority.

This means that it might be difficult for them to get enough votes in the Senedd to make important decisions and laws because the other parties could vote against them.

A political party needs to win 49 seats or more in the Senedd for a majority. Plaid Cymru have decided to form a minority government.

This means they do not have a majority and they will need to work together with other parties to make sure they have enough votes to make decisions and laws.

This is how many seats each political party got:

Plaid - 43 seats
Reform - 34
Labour - 9
Conservatives - 7
Green - 2
Lib Dem - 1

The first plenary session of the new Senedd will take place this afternoon. They will be voting for the new Llywydd (Presiding Officer) and Deputy. Their job is to chair debates, be impartial and make sure there is fairness in the Senedd.

You can watch this session at 2pm on Welsh Parliament TV: https://www.senedd.tv/Meeting/Live/ae4741c4-6c6d-4fe0-bfd7-391ca0e269d0

We look forward to working with all elected Members to ensure the voices of people with a learning disability in Wales are heard and that their rights, wellbeing and inclusion remain a priority for the next Welsh Government.
