Rowan berries washed down the burn and into the bay, returned on the tide to Tràigh a' Chorrain.
Collected them on my knees, a prayer to the Hebrides. Timeful, timeless place, strange serendipities.
A dialogue between land, sky, sea, tree, and me.

We have a place available on introductory eco-psychology training in October this weekend! What's special about the professional training with Natural Academy is that it teaches high level group facilitation skills which equip leaders to support long lasting emotional and psychological change for participants in a nature based setting! As a graduate of the advanced diploma in eco psychology and nature based practice I will be supporting the delivery of this training at a beautiful off grid site in the forest of bowland. Comment or pm for more details.

The places we love: back on one of my favourite Hebridean islands.... the usual mixture of the wild Atlantic coast, Scottish music, calmac ferries, fast moving weather systems, huge empty beaches, damp dog days plus whale bones, Uamh Shiorruidh; the endless cave, saturn low and bright on the dawn horizon, unexpected encounters and an all night vigil. It's a special place, a little piece of me is always left behind and a little piece of this place stays with me. I think it's the timelessness that gets under my skin, or maybe timefullness, layers and layers of time... and the edges....and the space....and the quiet.... So much magic here to keep calling me back. Not much art making but plenty of inspiration to absorb.

About this talk: Caroline Schofield will explain how earth pigments are collected, created and used in the visual arts. We will explore how people have worked with pigments over time from early humans onwards. We will then look at the current revival of artists using found and foraged pigments in their artwork. Caroline will share some of her experience of how working with earth pigments informs her arts practice and an idea of some of the practicalities involved in making your own paints.

(Link to book in comments)

This 45min talk will be followed by a 15min Q&A with Caroline, and GeoMôn geologists will also be at hand to answer any of your more geology-oriented questions, expanding this into an interactive evening spanning both the arts and sciences.

Speaker: Caroline Schofield is an artist and eco-therapist based in North Wales who, over the past five years, she has studied the practicalities of using natural pigments to make paint and experimented with how to use these materials in her own artwork. She is a GeoMôn volunteer and runs Guided by Nature who offer workshops and courses in nature connection and working with natural art materials. You can discover more about her practices on her website.

Please note: this talk will take place online and through the medium of English, although you are welcome to ask questions and participate in Welsh should you wish. An online meeting link will be sent out by email the day before the talk.

A two day residential at Trigonos 28th/29th November. Alchemical Arts - 'The Blackening'. Paper making with nettles, creating art materials with charcoal, earth, burnt bone and sloe berries. You might be an artist wanting to work with natural materials and learn about eco-therapy. Or you might be a nature lover who wants to be creative. Either way you will leave with your own personalised 'Winter Book' which will we make together whilst spending slow time in nature on the threshold of winter. If that's not enough think mountains, lake and sauna!!! 🖤 Link in comments.

I grew safflower this year. It was very hard to get them to germinate and I didn't get much of a harvest for dye. The seed heads are just exquisite in themselves though, beautiful to see.

Just catching up on sharing these photos from two sessions with Conwy Mind. We made the inks and dyes together outdoors with plants grown this summer and spent time connecting with the natural world around us. People made images observing what was around them and how they felt then crafted little personalised books to take home. It's incredible to see the lovely creations that came out of a few hours together, really beautiful work and the group fully embraced the process. It's a big photo dump, there is so much to share and I haven't managed to post anything in a while so here goes!

The Tibetan word 'shul' means the mark or trace that remains behind. Mulling ochre....even the remnants are beautiful, I can't bring myself to wash the slab. What would the Welsh translation be? Ôl?

I'm very pleased to say that my application to be a resident artist at The Booth, in Shetland's ancient capital Scalloway has been accepted by Wasps Studios. It's the wee blue building right on the shore!

It's hard to think of a more inspiring place to be during the long nights of winter and I am looking forward to continuing my research into the Alchemical theme of 'Nigredo' -'The Blackening'. I'll be here for winter solstice, christmas and new year, a time when I love to slow right down, be quiet and alone in the generative darkness and probably the wild weather too! 🖤
