A very bright and shiny morning dear friends... I am sure you must have had an awesome weekend... and must be getting ready to start a new week.. I would like to share few facts about Ayurvedic perspective of human physiology...

AYURVEDIC CONCEPT OF BODY CONSTITUTION

According to Ayurveda, basic constitution is determined at the time of conception. This constitution is called Prakruti. The term Prakruti is a Sanskrit word that means, "nature," "creativity," or "the first creation."
One of the very important concept of Ayurveda is that one's basic constitution is fixed throughout his lifetime.
The combination of Vata, Pitta, and Kapha that was present in the individual at the time of conception is maintained throughout his lifetime. Different persons can have different combination of Vata, Pitta and kapha as their basic constitution or Prakruti.
This is how Ayurveda can explain the subtle differences between individuals and explains why everyone is unique and that two persons can react very differently when exposed to the same environment or stimuli. Your Prakruti is unique to you just as your fingerprint and DNA. Thus, in order to understand a person, it is necessary to determine his or her Prakruti.

Good evening friends... How are you today.. I hope everyone is making some or the other plan for this weekend.. hope you have a fun filled weekend... I would like to share some facts about the three energies/doshas of the human body...

THE 3 DOSHAS OF AYURVEDA

Vata — Vata energy is often said to be like the wind. It’s primarily in charge of mobility, motion, circulation, breathing, and other essential body functions. Vata types are known to be creative and energetic when they’re in balance but fearful, stressed and “scatter-brained” when they’re not. Physically, vata types are usually on the thin side, have smaller bones and tend not to put on weight easily. They also might be cold a lot of the time, have a delicate digestive system and have dry, sensitive skin.

Pitta — Pitta is the energy force that governs most metabolic activity, including digestion, absorption of nutrients, body temperature and energy expenditure. Pitta types tend to be smart, hard-working and driven (even competitive) when in balance but can be overly angry and aggressive when they’re not. They tend to have a medium build, be athletic, and are versatile in terms of putting on weight or muscle.

Kapha — Kapha controls growth in the body and is considered the nourishing dosha. It supplies moisturize to the cells and organs, and helps keep a strong immune system. Kaphas are known for being grounded, supportive, loving and forgiving when in balance — almost like a motherly type. However, they can also be lazy, insecure, envious and sad when they’re not in balance.
By helping to balance the three doshas — not letting one type become overly dominant and another to become ignored — handling stress, following a healthy diet, dealing with change and maintaining relationships are all expected to be easier.

The Importance of Six Tastes in Ayurvedic Diet

Ayurveda recognizes six tastes and it's quite important to have all of these 6 tastes in your diet every day.
The six tastes are:
Sweet – sugar, honey, rice, pasta, milk, etc.
Sour – lemons, hard cheese, yogurt, vinegar, etc.
Salty – salt, any salty food
Pungent – chili peppers, cayenne, ginger, any hot spice
Bitter – leafy greens, turmeric, lettuce, etc.
Astringent – pomegranate, beans, lentils, etc.
Including all six tastes in your diet contributes to feeling satisfied at the end of a meal. Cravings are often caused by not having all of the six tastes in your daily diet.

Good evening my dear friends.. How was your day today.. You must be having quite a busy weekdays.. Lets finds out some ways we can improve our health in the busy schedules...

Ayurveda believes that all good health starts with digestion and with the proper metabolism of food. Accordingly, one of the most important things we can do for our health every day of the year is to eat wisely.
Food is considered just as powerful as medicine. In fact, there is a sloka (writings of the ancient texts of ayurveda) that says “food is medicine when consumed properly.” If we eat foods uniquely suited to our physiology, and follow a sattvic (life supporting) routine that enhances digestion, our bodies will reap the benefits and we will find that our days will be happier, healthier and filled with real vitality — at any age.

Here are our top ten ayurvedic dietary must-dos:

1. Eat naturally intelligent foods
Processed foods, genetically-modified foods, and foods to which artificial preservatives or other synthetic chemicals have been added are no longer alive with the intelligence of nature. According to ayurveda, our human physiology is a reflection of the laws of the universe, and the more in tune our lives are with nature, the healthier we are likely to be! Our bodies possess the natural intelligence to process the foods that are closest to nature, such as fresh whole grains and organically-grown fruits and vegetables.

2. Shun food fads
Each year there are fad diets that come with media hype of new research on certain foods, drinks, or a new diet that is “guaranteed” to work. Keeping up with the latest on what to eat, how, or when, can be a challenge. After all, what works for a million other people may still not be right for us, as each of us is a unique being. This is the beauty of ayurveda — it recognizes our uniqueness and gives us a knowledge and perspective that is empowering; that allows us to manage our own health in a very personalized manner.

3. Opt for lots of fruits and vegetables
Eat loads of fruits and vegetables, not only for their nutritional value, but also because they are good natural internal cleansers.

4. Be spice-wise
Spices not only add flavor and aroma; they also bring therapeutic value to any meal. Spices help boost natural immunity, and most of them can rev up our digestion so our bodies are able to absorb and assimilate the nutrients from the foods we eat.

5. Cleanse from the inside out
The build-up of ama — digestive toxins resulting from improper digestion — in the physiology is, according to ayurveda, the root cause of most disorders.
• Eating late in the evening when the body is ready for rest and not prepared for the heavy work of digestion. Eat a lighter, well-cooked meal at least three hours before bed, and try to be in bed around 10:00 p.m. or before.
• Eating raw veggies or heavy meats that are harder to digest.
• Having weak digestion, due to an imbalance, or due to stress in our lives.
• Poor hydration. When the body is not hydrated, it cannot remove impurities from the lymph system properly. Blood production and flow may be negatively affected, possibly inhibiting our body’s ability to carry and maintain oxygen and nutrients.

6. Eat for your soul
Balanced health goes beyond physical wellness to well-being in mind, spirit, emotions and senses as well. The food we eat can nourish our mind, body and emotions, not just our body.

BASIC PRINCIPLES OF AYURVEDA

While Ayurvedic principles can be used to explain the complexity of not only health, but also the world around us, there are several simple basics that become the building blocks for everything else:

• Ayurveda’s fundamental approach to well-being is that you must reach your unique state of balance in your whole being—body, mind, and spirit.

• Ayurveda views the world in light of 3 constitutional principles: vata, pitta, and kapha.

• The first line of defense in combating imbalances is to remove the cause of the problem. If the trouble-maker is out of the picture, the body starts being able to heal itself. For example, if pollutants are bothering your nasal passages and sinuses, rinse them out with a traditional Ayurvedic remedy, the neti pot.

• If there are any lingering imbalances after removing the inciting cause, then bring balance by using opposites. For example, the Ayurvedic remedy to excess heat is to use something cooling. So for excess heat or acidity in the digestive system, you could use cooling and soothing herbs like Shatavari.

• Always support the digestive fire, so that nutrition can be absorbed and waste materials can be eliminated.

5 BENEFITS OF AYURVEDA
1. It emphasis more on the preventive aspects than the cure of a disease
2. This creates an environment for purifying the body naturally, which eliminates all toxic imbalances, enabling to regain natural resistance from diseases and attain good health.
3. Ayurveda provides detailed instructions of daily regimen, seasonal regimen, food, sleep and sexual behavior so that health can be optimized and illness healed
4. Ayurveda is not only treatment but a way of life. It uses herbs, herbal-mineral combination, massage, meditation and yoga for ones physical, mental and spiritual well being because of which the medicinal system has no side effects.
5. Ayurvedic medicine promotes a mostly plant-based diet filled with a variety of real, whole foods. While each person’s diet is different depending on body type and needs, Ayurvedic diets for the three different dosha types all include various fresh herbs, spices, teas, vegetables, healthy fats, high-antioxidant foods and protein.
General dietary guidelines of Ayurveda emphasize consuming fresh, hot and easy to digest foods, while taking into account several variations that depend on someone’s ancestry, customs and traditions. For example, social, geographic and climatic variables are all considered when prescribing a diet to balance the doshas.

Hello dear friends..you must be ready to tug into your beds or must be having dinner.. I would like to share some few basics of Ayurveda

Ayurveda is a science of Self understanding. By understanding your own unique nature or constitution, you can begin to understand how you interact with your environment and thus make choices that will lead you toward greater health.

Ayurveda philosophy is based on two essential pillars. First is the composition and second the constitution. It believes that every living being in this world is composed of five essential elements. These elements are air, water, fire, ether (space) and earth. The combination of these elements forms the constitution of the body which in Ayurvedic context is called as the DOSHAS. There are 3 doshas or energies namely Vata, Pitta and Kaph.

However all the 3 doshas forms every human being’s basic constitution but the dominance of any one forms the basic nature of the Human body. Each individual has a unique balance of all three of these energies. Some people will be predominant in one while others are a mixture of two or more.
