He was a successful London oil broker. He worked in the City and on Wall Street. But it was in 1999 while living in Athens that Jean-Claude Chalmet found his true calling - the understanding of the human mind.
He went on to train with a leading psychiatrist/neurologist/family therapist, graduating in 2003, and after growing his own practice, JC - as he’s known to his guests and friends – founded The Place Retreat in Seminyak in 2015.
It’s now a retreat centre for psychotherapy and family therapy in combination with Kundalini yoga and meditation, where individuals, couples and groups can work on their transformation. JC firmly believes that overall health can’t be separated from mental health.
Our reviewer Annabel Heseltine told us: ‘Be they burnt-out bankers, traumatised divorcees, crashed widows, anxious mothers, lost teenagers or just people seeking a new way, guests rarely come for just a week. More usually they stay a month or two or three.’
