Blessing the land before farming it is an ancient practice thought to bring good fortune for the crop and the stewards of the land.

Let’s start our day by thinking about this… by being grateful for the here and now, the little things, and living each moment as it comes, we avoid slipping into rumination about the past, or worry about the future. We only need to be here, in this moment - that’s it. Deal with what you have to deal with ‘in the moment’ as we all know life can be tough, but better ‘moments’ will come, and you can create them by slowing down and noticing the things around you, the texture of the clothes touching you, or rain on your skin, the air in your lungs being warm or cool, the rise and fall of your chest as you breathe effortlessly or the taste of something you’re eating/drinking. Try it! It really helps!

Mental wellbeing among UK farmers has hit a 4 year low among those over 40, with those aged 61+ showing the sharpest decline – which, traditionally, has been the most resilient age group. In 2024 there were 47 suicides in England and Wales among the farming and agricultural industry.

Last week (9-15 February) was the Farm Safety Foundation’s Mind Your Head Week. On Wednesday, a Mental Health Marketplace took place at the Carlisle Mart where a number of farming charities and agencies gathered to offer their support and share resources. Revd David Newlove (pictured) attended as part of Cumbria Agricultural Chaplaincy.

Please pray for our chaplains, their ministry and the people they serve. They go not for themselves but for the people they meet and in the name of the Church.

Ever thought you were running away from a problem? Maybe time to reflect and realise that sometimes walking away from the things that no longer fulfil you, isn’t actually running away…. It’s realising your self worth and moving on. Rising above the BS, knowing that you’ve outgrown the situation and have learnt from it. You’re not running, you’re metamorphosising.

Time to look forward and not look back.
Lessons learned, everything is for our growth.
Ships that have sunk or sailed are to be forgotten.
New opportunities and connections will be forged.
