A couple of days ago I had an interesting chess session with a resident of a local care home. She had dementia and was keen to learn some chess. She remembered that her father and brother had played when she was a kid. What was useful was that she was learning spatial awareness and hand-eye coordination. Learning that the chess piece ♟️ goes in the middle of the square, and it moves in a straight line. Her daughter who was there thought it was helpful for her cognition, and the person seemed to enjoy learning something new. 🙂🙏🌸.
