Laughter Yoga club on Sunday!
What is laughter yoga?
Its a way of laughing that doesn't rely on jokes or comedy.
We simulate laughter and with eye contact, movement and a willingness to participate it quickly becomes natural laughter.
The yoga part comes in where we combine breathing exercises from yoga with laughter.
Its based on scientific evidence that suggests that you get the same benefits from induced laughter that you do from spontaneous laughter.
It was started in the nineties by a medical doctor with 5 people in the park and is now practised in 120 countries all accross the world!
The benefits:
- it will put you in a good mood for the rest of the day!
- it reduces stress, which helps the immune system
- it increases oxygen flow around the body and to the brain to give you better clarity of thought and creativity
- Laughter is a great connector, its a bonding experience both in the class at the time, and in your life in general as you'll be happier and healthier (if you start a practice of 1 min laughter a day to keep it up that is!)
- It builds resilience - bad things will still happen but you'll be able to deal with them more easily.
Am I fit enough to do laughter yoga?
If you can walk for half an hour without issue you can easily do laughter yoga.
If you have any medical condition in which laughing for an extended period will cause you difficulty it may not be for you (e.g. active bleeding, serious heat condition, uncontrolled hypertension, hernia, severe backache, recent surgery, unprotected incontinence).
But we can do it sitting down for those who need a little rest (bring a camping chair or seated stroller). Plus we can modify the movements to suit you (e.g. not raising arms).
