Adults living with obesity in Wolverhampton can now self-refer to free weight management support.
Obesity is a risk factor for a range of conditions, including cardiovascular disease and cancer. The council's Live Well Wolverhampton provides free information and support to help people make positive lifestyle changes and lose weight.
Individuals can access face-to-face group weight management sessions over a period of 12 weeks delivered by Slimming World or Gro Health, while a tailored digital programme is available via an app delivered by Gro Health. People can be referred to the weight management service by a healthcare professional, while they can now choose to self-refer directly.
Councillor Obaida Ahmed, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Community, said: “In England, it is estimated that around a quarter of adults live with obesity, and in Wolverhampton that number is even higher. Providing services such as weight management support underpins our ambition to support Wulfrunians to live longer, healthier, lives, and so, if you are living with obesity, please take advantage of the free support on offer through Live Well Wolverhampton."
