One of the things I explore with a lot of my therapy clients is the difference between impulse and desire. As a counsellor, somatic trauma therapist, and someone with lived experience of ADHD and Autism, this is something that I also navigate on a pretty much daily basis.

They can feel very similar in the body… but they often come from very different places. And when you’re navigating factors like ADHD, which impacts our relationship to impulses, or other experiences like addiction, OCD and trauma, it can be difficult to know the difference.

If you want to explore this with more depth, head to my blog. Or, if you want to check in with yourself in the here and now you could ask yourself

Do I actually want this… or am I trying to escape discomfort?

Healing Arts: Connect to the Forest Gallery Tour

I’m excited to be collaborating with and as part of Healing Arts Birmingham (HABrum), a city-wide initiative demonstrating how the arts can transform health, wellbeing, and social equity.

Clare will be leading a gallery tour of her exhibition ‘Everything in the forest is the forest’. Clare’s work is a response to a government report highlighting an increase in loneliness and isolation in rural areas. It celebrates trees and their ability to nurture and communicate.

After we’ve explored Clare’s work, I’ll be inviting you to step outside, to meet the trees of Cannon Hill Park, and explore what it means to be in community with the more-than-human world and with each other.

Through guided eco-somatic and nature-therapy based practices, we’ll consider how, just like trees, we can thrive through interconnection, reciprocity and responsiveness. You’ll be invited to notice your embodied responses to the trees you meet, to the land beneath your feet and to the community we’ll cultivate together.

If you’d like to join us, you can book via The Mac’s website (link in bio)

My frustrations, as a therapist, about the PIP application and review process. In order to best support my clients in the process I have to frame their experience through the lens of pathology, which has an impact on our therapeutic relationship. As a therapist that is anti pathology, neuroaffirming, disability affirming and identity affirming, it's frustrating that I have to frame my clients experience (with consent and in collaboration with them) through the lens of the medical model, to support them to get they support they need.

Reflections on accommodations and internalised ableism. Like a lot of disabled people a big part of me wants to be able to function without asking for what I need to have parity or equity of experience. To add to the video, I appreciate that I am in a privileged position as compared to disabled people who are unable to proceed in many situations without accommodations.

In my Patreon community this month we’ll be exploring the themes of:

Reciprocity: our relationship with the natural world, and how we can move beyond receiving into giving back. With Earth Day happening in April, we’ll be asking what does it truly mean to be in right relationship with nature, rather than just benefiting from it?

The Fool’s Journey; the moment of stepping into the unknown with trust. The Fool holds infinite potential, and their path through the tarot mirrors Carl Jung’s idea of individuation; learning through experience, risk, and integration.

Join me (link where you find links) for seasonal reflections, and guided somatic meditation and embodiment practices, exploring nature, ritual and archetypes and invitations for integration.

Being unmasked might be the aspirational but there's often a choice to be made between authenticity and safety. How does this show up for you and how do you evaluate that choice?

Join us as we approach Beltane or Bealtaine, the Celtic celebration marking the peak of spring. Open to people of all faiths, and those with none, this circle is for anyone who wants to gather in community.

Through eco-therapy and somatic practices, we’ll attune to the body, the land and each other. We’ll also connect with creativity and intention, through a Beltane crafting ritual.

These gatherings are trauma-informed, identity and gender-affirming, and neurodiversity-affirming, welcoming people of all genders and gender expressions.

COME AS YOU ARE. REST BY THE FIRE. CELEBRATE SPRING
