One thing I’ve learned working with people through their healing is this.

Sometimes we spend years waiting for the apology.

Waiting for them to finally understand what they did.
Waiting for them to acknowledge the damage.
Waiting for them to say the words we needed to hear.

And somewhere along the way, we convince ourselves that when that moment finally comes, we’ll be able to heal. We’ll be able to move forward.

But healing doesn’t always work that way.

Sometimes the apology never comes. And even when it does, it doesn’t always land the way we hoped. Because the wound was never really about the words. It was about what we lost, what was taken, and what we deserved and didn’t receive.

Here is the harder truth:

You may never get the apology you deserved.

Not because what happened didn’t matter. It did. But because the person who hurt you may never reach the place of awareness or honesty needed to truly reckon with what they did.

And if your healing depends on them getting there, you are handing someone else the keys to your own recovery.

That’s a painful thing to sit with. I know.

But it’s also one of the most liberating shifts I’ve seen in people. The moment they stop waiting and start asking: what do I need, regardless of whether they ever come through?

Their apology may bring closure.
But your healing is still yours to claim.

You don’t need their permission to begin.

Have you ever found yourself waiting for someone else to take responsibility before you could move forward? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

Much love,
Ryan

Think about something in your life that feels heavy right now. A responsibility, an expectation, a worry, something involving someone you love.

Now ask yourself a question we rarely think to ask. Is this actually mine?

Just because you’re capable of carrying something doesn’t mean it belongs on your shoulders. Sometimes we inherit fears from our families, expectations from our parents, beliefs from relationships we didn’t consciously choose. Someone we love is struggling, and without noticing, their problem becomes our responsibility. But there’s a difference between supporting someone and carrying something for them.

Try asking yourself three questions. Did I choose this? Can I actually control this? Is this genuinely my responsibility?

You can care deeply without carrying everything. Sometimes love holds someone’s hand. It doesn’t carry their backpack. ❤️

This week we’ve explored the approval trap. Today, a practical exercise to close it.

Take a piece of paper and write: I give myself permission to ___________. Don’t overthink it, just let it finish itself.
Then underneath, write: And I accept that not everybody has to understand.

You can love people without living for their approval. Try it today, and let me know in the comments what came up. ❤️

Earlier this week I asked what you’d choose differently if nobody could be disappointed in you. Today I want to go a little deeper.

Sometimes the person whose approval we’re still trying to earn isn’t even in the room anymore. Maybe you grew up wanting somebody to say I’m proud of you, so you became successful. Maybe being useful earned love, so now you’re always helping everyone. Maybe being easy-going kept the peace, so now you struggle to say no. And years later, we’re still playing by rules we don’t remember agreeing to.

So ask yourself, who am I still trying to prove myself to?
There’s a real difference between achievement that comes from inspiration and achievement that comes from needing to finally feel enough. Ambition isn’t the problem. Approval becomes a prison when we need somebody else’s permission to feel okay about ourselves.

Notice what’s driving you today. Sometimes the audience we’ve been performing for left the room years ago, and it might finally be time to stop performing for them. ❤️

What if you framed your pain as a path to heal faster? What if you leaned into your pain instead of running?
What if becoming free is first feeling the pain?

Even birth looks like suffering…… think about that for a moment.

It’s worth being mindful of who or what you’re investing in…….

Sometimes life’s hard, you stumble and tumble. Sometimes you feel like that’s it. That’s okay, I too have had these days.

If you have to, just live hour by hour, that becomes day by day until eventually you’re out the hole. It’s always temporary.
