Dementia Wellness Circle: A Safe and Supportive Space for South Asian Families in Sutton Coldfield
Dementia affects thousands of families across the UK, yet many South Asian communities still face barriers when it comes to accessing support, understanding the condition, and finding culturally familiar care. Language differences, stigma, isolation, and lack of culturally sensitive services can often leave both individuals living with dementia and their carers feeling alone.
That is why Successful Ageing UK is launching the Dementia Wellness Circle in Sutton Coldfield โ a welcoming weekly programme designed especially for South Asian older adults and their families.
The initiative aims to create a space where people feel respected, understood, and connected. Through meaningful activities, gentle wellbeing exercises, conversation, music, social interaction, and shared cultural experiences, participants will have opportunities to stay active, engaged, and emotionally supported.
The programme is not only for people living with dementia, but also for their caregivers and family members. Caring for a loved one with dementia can be emotionally and physically demanding, and many carers struggle without support. The Dementia Wellness Circle will provide guidance, peer connection, and a friendly environment where carers can share experiences and feel less isolated.
Importantly, the sessions are culturally sensitive and rooted in the values of community, dignity, and belonging that are central to South Asian families. By bringing people together in a familiar and inclusive setting, the initiative hopes to reduce loneliness, encourage early conversations around dementia, and improve overall wellbeing.
Launching on 15 May 2025 at Four Oaks Methodist Church, Sutton Coldfield, the Dementia Wellness Circle represents an important step towards building stronger community support for South Asian families living with dementia.
Because no family should face dementia alone.
