Lateral hip pain can make everyday activities such as walking, climbing stairs, lying on your side and exercising uncomfortable.

Resisted hip abduction can be a useful strengthening exercise for some people diagnosed with **Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome (GTPS)**, sometimes referred to as lateral hip pain. The exercise can help target the hip abductor muscles, including the gluteal muscles, which play an important role in supporting and controlling the hip.

However, **not every case of lateral hip pain is the same**. Pain around the outside of the hip can have different causes, and an exercise that is appropriate for one person may aggravate symptoms in another.

For this reason, we recommend performing this exercise **only after you have been assessed by a physiotherapist and advised that it is appropriate for your individual condition**.

If you, a friend or family member are experiencing persistent pain around the outside of the hip, consider arranging a physiotherapy assessment before starting a new rehabilitation programme.

💪 OBJECTIVE DATA. BETTER OUTCOMES.

At Active Motion Physiotherapy, we believe your rehabilitation should be guided by more than just how something feels.

That’s why we’re introducing objective muscle strength testing as part of our clinical assessments. Using our Muscle Meter, we can accurately measure strength, identify differences between sides and track your progress throughout rehabilitation. 📊

This can be particularly valuable when:

🏃 Returning to running or sport
⚽ Recovering from a sporting injury
🦵 Rehabilitating after surgery
🏋️ Building strength and performance
🚶 Returning confidently to everyday activities

Instead of relying on guesswork, we can use real assessment data alongside our clinical examination to help guide your rehabilitation and make more informed return-to-activity decisions.

And the best part? There are no hidden additional costs for this assessment technology when clinically appropriate as part of your physiotherapy care.

⬆️ From Post-Surgery Restriction to Overhead Reach 🙌

Recovery after Nuss surgery for pectus excavatum can be challenging, particularly when pain, stiffness and altered movement patterns begin to affect everyday activities.

We’re delighted to share Sasha’s progress after working with us at Active Motion Physiotherapy. 💪

Following a personalised rehabilitation programme focusing on:

✅ Scapulothoracic mobility
✅ Shoulder range of motion
✅ Postural retraining
✅ Strength and movement control
✅ Pain management strategies

Sasha has achieved a significant improvement in shoulder flexion, scapulothoracic movement and overall comfort.

The image above highlights just how far she has come—regaining the ability to comfortably reach overhead with improved movement quality and reduced pain.

Recovery is rarely a straight line, but with the right assessment, guidance and progressive rehabilitation, meaningful improvements are possible.

Well done Sasha on your hard work and commitment throughout the process. 👏

If you’ve had thoracic surgery, are struggling with shoulder stiffness, or are experiencing pain that is limiting your movement, our team is here to help.

🤚 Experiencing tingling, numbness or weakness in your hand?

It could be Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

Many people ignore symptoms for months, hoping they’ll go away on their own. Early assessment and treatment can often help reduce symptoms and prevent them from becoming more problematic.

Common signs include:
✔️ Tingling in the thumb, index and middle fingers
✔️ Night-time numbness
✔️ Weak grip strength
✔️ Dropping objects unexpectedly

At Active Motion Physiotherapy, we can assess your symptoms, identify contributing factors and create a personalised treatment plan to help you get back to your daily activities with confidence.
