🤍 The Pandemic of Self 🤍

Be yourself!

Focus on your inner self and love and it will all make sense. If you love yourself, then you will be loved.
No it won’t!!! No you won’t!!

Let’s make this very clear here. You can focus on yourself as much as you like, love yourself like nobodies business, and you should, but no amount of self love and focus will make it ok or make you happy in the way that this new trend is promising you.

I’ve touched on this before, but yesterday a conversation with a friend triggered me in a worrying way. For the world, for us and for me.

To what purpose is this trend ‘force feeding’ us this idea? For you, what do you think you will achieve? In what way will it help you? Self preservation? Acceptance? Or is it simply a way to distance yourself from reality and in order to feed the belief that you can ‘cope’ with life, that you can live fully and happily, accepting yourself in the process?
Because you need to realise this, if you distance yourself from reality, you aren’t coping, you aren’t living, you aren’t accepting yourself in reality. Just in your head, without transferring that to your actual life.

Let’s hypothesise here.
You do you. You do whatever the hell you want without caring what anyone else thinks. Let’s have a look at how that would work with something very little.
So you have your music on full blast till silly in the morning or even during the day. Not caring who’s home or next door…you are enjoying yourself.
Someone that is trying to sleep cannot sleep, so when they have to go to work, their attention span is compromised. They have a car crash. Rushed to hospital. In hospital the nurse couldn’t sleep either and makes a mistake with tiredness.
Your selfishness caused this.

Do you get my meaning? I know this is a very physical example, but all you have to do is imagine this in a psychological way. The way your actions impact on other people, especially those close to you.
It doesn’t matter if they are trying to do them too, you can’t always get away from outside influences and neither should you be expected to detach in that way.

You can say ‘that’s on you’ or the trendy ‘good for you’ but seriously? What kind of selfish, non caring society are we trying to achieve here? If you just care about yourself and not the people around you or how you impact said people and world, then what’s the point of you? And how much are you missing out on? Why would you want to live in a world where only you has an impact on you. Where only you is an important factor or priority in your life? You are running away from your responsibilities as a human being. The joy, excitement and love of humans is lost in this case, our very social core dismissed by a misconceived idealistic and selfish/lonely idea.

Don’t get me wrong, as with everything in life, I don’t believe the answer is to care about everyone, everything and all the impact, but! It’s not the other way around either. As with most things, the answer lies somewhere in between. Not with a trend, not just with you, not just with everyone. But in the middle.

Would love to hear your views 😉
