❓How do you say ‘no’ nicely at Christmas gatherings ❓
When we start our weight loss journey we don’t do it in a vacuum. There are friends, family, colleagues all around us. Some will support our efforts but others may very well sabotage us (often unintentionally).
Have you ever been to a party where someone persuades you to
1) eat foods/drink you normally avoid, or
2) eat/drink more than you want?
It can feel like a lot of pressure – especially if the person has gone to a lot of trouble to make special ‘treats’ or seasonal favorites. You don’t want to be rude 
 but you just don’t want to eat it!
Here’s a tip: Pay them a compliment and then politely decline. If you feel that you need to say more ... you can tell them you’re already full, or that you’re pacing yourself – and thank them for the invite! Be prepared and rehearse your responses so you don’t feel put on the spot.

For a long time I thought the answer to losing weight was, WILL POWER đŸ’Ș I also thought that all of my previous failed dieting attempts were down to my LACK OF WILL POWER. Here’s the truth: you don’t need willpower to lose weight. Do you have to have willpower to brush your teeth 👄? Drive your car 🚗? Nope. That stuff happens without even thinking about it. Losing weight is about CONSISTENTLY making healthier choices so that they become automatic habits. Will power is just decision making power. Imagine, you wake up every morning with your ‘will power bank account’ full. With every conscious decision (what am I going to wear today) you make a withdrawal. The less will power you have, the harder it is to change old habits or create new healthier ones. This is why lots of people struggle to make healthier choices in the evening! This is why will power isn’t a long-term solution to losing weight. It won’t take you to the finish line. It’s a booster rocket to get you into space but you need more to get you to the moon. Will power is only part of the jig saw puzzle. đŸ’Ș Two things you can do to build on your will power to create healthier new habits

Remember progress over perfection – New habits aren’t learnt overnight, yes it’s frustrating. If you slip back into an old habit, replace the negative self-talk and judgement with curiosity. Be fascinated, notice that it happened, carry on.

Practice, practice, practice. It’s the repetition of new behaviours that overrides the old habits. The more you do it the easier it gets! Be patient. If you were learning to drive, you wouldn’t expect to have learnt it after just one lesson. It takes time to get to the point where driving is automatic.

You want to lose weight and feel healthier and slimmer, yet you sabotage yourself at every turn đŸŸđŸ•đŸ·

If only you could find the right diet and stick to it you'd lose weight?

Guess what, it’s not about knowing what to eat. It’s not about avoiding carbs or whatever the latest craze is

..😼

The problem is doing it. We know what we should be eating or avoiding, so why can’t we do it
..consistently?

Trust me you’re NOT lacking in motivation, self-control or willpower. There is nothing wrong with you!

There are common self-sabotage traps that we can fall into
.’mental glitches’ if you like
.

Let’s start with how being ‘good’ can often be the slippery slope towards being ‘bad’. This is a recipe for self-sabotage 
..Why? Because of something psychologists call ‘moral licensing’.

It’s when you justify doing something ‘bad’ because you’ve been ‘good’, which generally results in you ‘blowing it’ leaving you with the impression you have no will-power!

Imagine the ‘cheat night’ phenomenon

You've had a great week, made compromises, stuck to the diet and got a great result on the scales. Yet you find yourself justifying ‘breaking’ the diet rules and having a 'cheat night' because ‘you deserve it’. Being ‘good’ all week shouldn’t give you a moral license to consume more calories after weighing in.
🧠🧠So what can you do to start to change this and re-programme your brain? 🧠🧠

Move beyond seeing food choices as GOOD 😇 or BAD 😈 Ditch the diet mentality. Remember that choosing to lose weight is about consistency and commitment, not about being good or bad. You’re not ‘on’ or ‘off’ a plan or diet. Instead see your choices as steps that will either bring you closer to, or further away from your long-term goal.

Weight loss starts with the mind.

“How are you choosing to live your life, are you making excuses or taking responsibility?”

💜Sounds harsh but it’s so true. Often the excuses we use keep us in a familiar place. They keep us in our comfort zone, serving to protect us from failure or disappointment. But that familiar place, being unhappy with your weight, isn’t where you want to be right?!?

🌟Losing weight is a choice we need to make and a goal I believe EVERYONE can achieve, if they choose to🌟

I am by no means perfect. At times I amaze myself with my planning of meals to keep me track. But like you, I’m mega busy. I work part-time in the NHS, run my own business, have a family and friends and sometimes life just takes over!

This morning is a brilliant example!
I didn’t get round to planning or prepping my lunch for work đŸ˜± I could have used the excuse that I didn’t have time. Truth is, I could have had time, I just didn’t make it a priority.

That’s ok, what I chose to do was to use a back up. Having a plan B, a safety net, a meal or snack you can fall back on when you don’t plan (rather than grabbing the unhealthy snacks), is crucial.

đŸ„Ł So today for lunch I’m tucking into my ‘Plan B’ keep-me-on-track option 
..a tin of soup!!
