Most of you will have heard of the phrase "Slow and steady wins the race"

Whilst this may not be true for an elite athlete attempting the 100 metre sprint race, it certainly rings true when it comes to learning how to process stress and trauma in the body.

We are in a fast paced world where we are always rushing, where quick fixes are sold by influencers and practitioners all the time.

"7 Day Cleanse!"
"30 Day Reset!"
"3 Months Guaranteed Results!"

And sure, you might get initial results but is it sustainable, effective and useful for the long term? Generally something that feels a bit extreme, is not going to be manageable as a regular self care practice.

TRE is a lifelong practice. It's a gradual unwinding, noticing and allowing all that needs to be heard, but in it's own time. You cannot force what is not ready to reveal itself.

With a guided TRE practice, you can gently explore your edges, gradually expanding your window of tolerance with someone by your side so that your body and mind knows that it can always return to a felt sense of safety when needed. With a slow and gentle practice you get to learn how to recognise what is enough for you in that moment and when to take a break. Self regulation is a key component of TRE.

Some people can be looking for big or profound experiences and are disappointed or unmotivated to carry on when it doesn't happen straight away.

It's important to remember to trust the process. It can take many many practices of TRE before you really start to notice how much of a profound effect it can have on your life. The key is in the noticing and awareness of the subtle changes in your nervous system that allow small (but not insignificant) changes in thoughts, feelings and behaviours over the long term.

Our kids will trigger old wounds that we may not have realised are there.

TRE is an amazing self regulation tool that will allow you to process past experiences and help you move forward and parent with a fresh perspective.

Parenting is an incredibly difficult job. ❤️

Nobody warned me how much of parenting would end up being about me and my old stuff. 😩

Back then I was convinced the problem was the arguing and the pushback and the same fights showing up over and over. So that's what I focused on...spending so much energy trying to get my kids to behave "better."

What I didn't realize was I was bringing my baggage to all of it...What I thought kids were supposed to do. What I thought I was supposed to do as their parent. All the pressure I put on myself to somehow get it right.

It took me a long time to see any of that. Back then, all I focused on was the behavior because I was just trying to get through the moment.

Now, when one of my kids does something that sets me off, I try my best to get curious before I react. Not always. Not perfectly. But more than I used to.

Not because my kids are never the issue. Sometimes they are.

Just because there's usually more going on than I can see when I'm in it.

Let me know if this is something you can relate to and save this post for a hard moment.

Keep going...You've got this! 💛
