Allergies in children take many forms – and spotting them isn’t always straightforward. Here are some of the most common we see:

🥛 Cow’s milk
🥚 Egg
🥜 Peanut
🌷 Hayfever and other environmental allergies

Some show up as tummy troubles or skin flare-ups, others as sneezing and itchy eyes — and sometimes it’s just a niggling feeling that something isn’t quite right.

Whatever the allergy (or suspected allergy), you don’t have to figure it out alone. We can carry out proper testing, give you a clear diagnosis, and build a plan that suits both you and your child.

What actually is a paediatrician? 🩺

A paediatrician is a doctor who specialises only in babies, children and young people. We train for years in how little bodies grow and develop, how illnesses show up differently in children than in grown-ups, and how to spot the subtle things that are easy to miss.

Children aren’t just small adults – they have their own conditions, their own signs to look out for, and their own way of telling us something’s wrong. Having someone who understands all of that can make a world of difference when you’re worried.

The three concerns were asked about most? Here they are. 👇

🤧 Allergies – from suspected food allergies to reactions you can’t quite pin down. We help you get a clear diagnosis and a plan, instead of guesswork and worry.

🤒 Recurrent infections – the coughs, colds and tummy bugs that seem to come back on repeat. We look at the bigger picture to work out whether it’s just bad luck or something worth investigating.

🫁 Breathing difficulties – from wheezing to persistent coughs to suspected asthma. These are the ones parents worry about most, and exactly the sort of thing a specialist should assess properly.

Watch the video for more 👆 If any of these sound familiar, you don’t have to keep guessing.

Let’s be honest: over the school holidays, screen time goes up. It’s inevitable.

The routine’s gone, it’s probably raining outside, and sometimes 20 minutes of YouTube is the only way to keep them occupied. If that’s you – you are absolutely not alone, and no, you don’t need to feel guilty.

A few things that genuinely help keep it balanced:

Anchor the day around one non-screen thing – a walk, the park, baking, a friend round. Screens fill the gaps rather than the whole day.

Try to switch off an hour before bed. Screens late at night are one of the biggest hidden causes of the “why won’t they sleep” holiday struggle.

Watch or play with them when you can. It’s better for them, and honestly, it’s often quite good fun.

Perfect isn’t the goal – balance is.

If mealtimes currently feel like a negotiation with a very small, very stubborn diplomat – you are not alone. Fussy eating is incredibly common, and most of the time it’s a phase, not a problem.

A few things that genuinely help: keep offering the food without pressure (even if it gets refused ten times before it doesn’t), let them see you eating it too, and try not to turn it into a battle – kids can sense tension, and it rarely ends well for anyone.

The odd dinner of just plain pasta? Totally normal.

But if you’re worried it’s affecting their growth, their energy, or your peace of mind – don’t sit on it, and please don’t rely on guesswork. Book a proper conversation with one of our paediatricians and let’s get you real answers and a plan that works.

The summer holidays are the best, aren’t they? Long days, paddling pools, trampolines in the garden. But they’re also when we see certain injuries again and again – and the good news is that most of them are easily prevented.

I’m Dr Dan, and here are the three many paediatricians worry about most over the summer…

1. Water injuries and drowning.
2. Playground and trampoline injuries.
3. Sunburn, heatstroke and dehydration.

A few small habits, and you’re all set for the summer you’ve been looking forward to.

Have a wonderful one, from all of us at BPC. ☀️

It’s set to be a sunny few days, but remember – sun safety shouldn’t be taken for granted. ☀️

Keeping little ones safe in the sun is about more than just a quick sq**rt of sun cream. Factor 50 is the foundation, reapplied every couple of hours (more often if they’ve been in and out of the water).

But it works best alongside everything else: a hat if you can get away with it, shade between 11am and 3pm when the sun’s at its strongest, and plenty of fluids to keep them hydrated through the day.

Not knowing what to expect can make the whole thing feel more daunting than it needs to be. So here’s what actually happens…

Your consultant will sit down with you and your child and take the time to talk through what’s been going on – properly, without you feeling rushed. They’ll then carry out a physical examination if that’s needed.

From there, you’ll agree together on next steps. That might mean some investigations, or it might mean a treatment plan. But more often than not in paediatrics, it’s simply a case of getting the right person to take a proper look and give you a clear answer.

That’s usually what parents need most – not more tests, just someone who knows what they’re talking about telling them what’s going on.

That’s what we’re here for. Book yours via the link in our bio.
