"The Power of TED" by David Emerald.
Guiding Principles of TED* (*The Empowerment Dynamic)
• Each of us has an infinite and innate essence as a Creator
Every person possesses a Creator essence—an inner goodness and a desire to learn, grow,
and contribute meaningfully. This essence is always present and is cultivated through
greater personal awareness and supportive, intentional relationships.
• The problem orientation is the default human operating system.
The human neurological system is wired to focus on threats – fear-based and problem-
focused – which often create drama and Victim consciousness. Recognizing and
interrupting this mechanism helps us shift into more resourceful ways of being.
• People can shift. We are always at choice.
In every moment, we have the power to choose our response. The shift from reactivity to
empowerment is the fundamental shift from Victim to Creator.
• Focusing on outcomes—not problems – creates sustained progress.
Focusing on desired outcomes, rather than reacting to the anxiety we feel about problems,
activates passion, possibility, and sustainable, lasting change.
• Challengers call forth responsibility, accountability, and truth.
When we inhabit the role of Challenger, we name what is real—candidly and
constructively—to disrupt limiting beliefs and patterns. Rooted in care, the Challenger
sparks growth by inviting others to take ownership of their choices and learning.
• Coaches cultivate clarity and forward movement.
As Coaches, we draw out insight through deep listening and powerful questions. Seeing
others as Creators, the Coach supports them in being outcome-focused and taking action
in alignment with their desired outcomes.
• Holding Dynamic Tension sustains growth and creativity.
Creative energy arises from the gap between current reality and envisioned outcomes.
Harnessing this tension as generative energy—without collapsing into drama, anxiety, or
apathy—sustains forward movement.
• We create one Baby Step at a time.
Progress occurs through consistent, principle-aligned actions. Each baby step creates
learning, clarity, confidence, and flexibility to move forward in times of rapid change.
Manifesting what we want requires a bias for action, one step at a time.
• Growth, creativity, and innovation occur through dynamic and powerful relationships.
Positive relationships are the foundation of growth and creativity. Long-term, sustainable
change comes from trusting and heart-centered relationships.
• Co-creation is a shared commitment and focus.
We all have the capacity to create, and when we engage as co-Creators, we distribute
power, honor diverse perspectives, and work together toward shared outcomes.
