Thankyou to all of our volunteers, who go above and beyond to help support the work that we do, we couldn't do it without you!

Volunteers play a vital role in every charity, and Latch is no different. From attending events, to collecting donations, and everything in between, our volunteers show up day in and day out, rain, hail or shine. Together, we're working to make sure no family in Wales faces childhood cancer alone.

From all of us here at Latch, and all Latch families, thankyou for your incredible work and support, it makes a world of difference 💜💜💜

🌈🔔 Congratulations Sophia! 🔔🌈

In May 2023, when Sophia was 5 years old, she began experiencing headaches and then sudden eyesight problems — blurry vision, squinting and double vision. After urgent investigations, the families world fell apart when they were told she had a pilocytic astrocytoma, a type of brain tumour.

Sophia needed emergency surgery straight away to release the dangerous build‑up of fluid in her brain that was causing her vision problems. Just two weeks later, she underwent another operation to place a VP shunt, which now continuously helps to drain the fluid and keep her safe.

She then began two and a half years of chemotherapy, facing every challenge head on. And now, exactly three years after her diagnosis, she and her family finally reached the moment they had dreamed of — Sophia rang the bell, signalling the end of her treatment.

'We are unbelievably proud of her' said her family. 'We also want to thank all the wonderful nurses and doctors who cared for her throughout this journey, and the incredible Latch team, who helped us create precious memories during such a difficult time by organising outings and holidays that brought joy back into our lives.'

Sophia even raised an amazing £3,688.75 for Latch, which included selling her hand‑crafted bracelets at local stalls in her neighbourhood — a wonderful way to help support other families in similar situations to her own.

We are so grateful, so excited to see everything Sophia will achieve next 💜

This Saturday saw Swansea.com stadium come to life to support families affected by childhood cancer.
An incredible turn out for the match to support 6 charities who support children and families families affected by childhood cancer.
With an incredible turn out, the roars of the crowd really emphasised how incredible and important it is for communities to come together and support one another.
Thankyou to everyone who came along, played, and organised the day, it couldn't have been the success it was without you all!

A big thankyou to Jonathan and Jess who raised £307 when taking on the 2026 Barry Island 10k.

This year saw the largest ever turn out for the event; more than 4,700 participants taking part in both the 10K and junior races, with the course running through some of Barry's most iconic locations including Whitmore Bay, the Knap, and Watch House Bay.

It was a great occasion with plenty of support from family and friends a long the way. Thank you for your support and generosity and for your efforts in raising funds and awareness for Latch!

A big thankyou to Lacey-Lee for her wonderful donation!

Over the past few months since she finished her treatment, Lacey has been making and selling some gorgeous bracelets to help raise money for Latch. The bracelets, made from loom bands and elastic and beads, were a challenge for Lacey to make due to her posterior fossa syndrome and the intricate movements required, but it didn't stop her constructing nearly 50 of them!

Lacey was inspired to raise money for all of the support shown by Latch throughout her chemotherapy treatment and wanted to give something back, including not only her £100 donations, but a collection of care items for families.

What advice would you give to anyone else who is thinking of doing something like this?
'If anyone is thinking of raising money for Latch just do it. You can do lots of different things to make money. It could be making things like jewellery or do a cake sale or a walking / running challenge and have family and friends to help'

Last Thursday we held another wonderful 12+ teen event.

This time we stopped in at Peggy's Pots in Canton, and had the chance to customise some pottery, and got to spend some time with other teens who are going through treatment. Not only did they make some works of art (we can't wait to see the final results once they're out of the kiln), but also had some fantastic snacks, and pizza! (Maybe we should rename the event to Pottery , Painting and Pizza?)

We're so glad to be able to offer these events to teenagers to give them a space to express themselves and connect with one another, during a time that can feel incredibly isolating, with people who know first hand what it's like to experience cancer treatment and the side effects that come with it.

Such a wonderful time coming together with a number of Latch families to see The Sheep Detective!

Lots of giggles were had, and popcorn popped on these wonderful excursions to the cinema, one at the Showcase cinema in Nantgarw, the other at Vue in Carmarthen.

It was so lovely to get to see so many smiling faces, and great to have a nice escape from the heat!
