🌈🔔 Congratulations Sophia! 🔔🌈
In May 2023, when Sophia was 5 years old, she began experiencing headaches and then sudden eyesight problems — blurry vision, squinting and double vision. After urgent investigations, the families world fell apart when they were told she had a pilocytic astrocytoma, a type of brain tumour.
Sophia needed emergency surgery straight away to release the dangerous build‑up of fluid in her brain that was causing her vision problems. Just two weeks later, she underwent another operation to place a VP shunt, which now continuously helps to drain the fluid and keep her safe.
She then began two and a half years of chemotherapy, facing every challenge head on. And now, exactly three years after her diagnosis, she and her family finally reached the moment they had dreamed of — Sophia rang the bell, signalling the end of her treatment.
'We are unbelievably proud of her' said her family. 'We also want to thank all the wonderful nurses and doctors who cared for her throughout this journey, and the incredible Latch team, who helped us create precious memories during such a difficult time by organising outings and holidays that brought joy back into our lives.'
Sophia even raised an amazing £3,688.75 for Latch, which included selling her hand‑crafted bracelets at local stalls in her neighbourhood — a wonderful way to help support other families in similar situations to her own.
We are so grateful, so excited to see everything Sophia will achieve next 💜
