It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our dear friend and much-loved volunteer, Sylvia Howard, following her cancer journey.
For 28 years, Sylvia was a much-loved part of our Conwy shop, volunteering from the day it first opened and giving an incredible 8,500+ hours of her time to help people affected by cancer.
Sylvia seemed to know everything there was to know about running a charity shop â from pricing and steaming to sorting donations and creating beautiful displays. She was a trusted key holder, regularly opening and closing the shop during staff holidays and absences, and was often the person keeping things going behind the scenes.
But books were Sylviaâs real passion. Our resident book specialist, she had an incredible knowledge of them, carefully valuing and displaying donations to help raise as much as possible for people affected by cancer. She was also a familiar face at our fundraising events, particularly during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, where she could often be found gathering sponsorship and supporting our campaigns.
In 2024, Sylvia was shortlisted for one of our volunteer awards in recognition of her outstanding contribution â a fitting tribute to someone who gave so much, for so long.
Sylvia was more than a volunteer. She was part of the fabric of our Conwy shop and the wider community she loved. Her kindness, knowledge, dedication and friendship touched so many people, and her absence will be deeply felt.
Our thoughts are with Sylviaâs family and friends, and with everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Diolch, Sylvia, for 28 wonderful years of giving your time, your energy and your heart. You leave behind an incredible legacy and will be very, very missed.
