"Private healthcare isn't for people like me." - It's something we hear all the time.

The reality is often much simpler than people expect.

✔️ You don't need private medical insurance to be seen.
✔️ Many people pay for a single consultation or scan.
✔️ You'll know the cost before you decide to go ahead.
✔️ For many services, you can book directly without a GP referral.

One more thing that often surprises people: choosing private healthcare for one part of your care doesn't remove you from an NHS pathway. Many patients use both.

Let's clear one thing up. A robot doesn't perform your surgery.

Your surgeon does.

With Mako robotic-assisted joint replacement, a 3D model is built from a scan of your own joint. Your surgeon uses it to plan the size and position of your implant before the day of surgery.

During the operation, the robotic arm helps them stay precise to that plan.

Why it matters: a joint that fits well tends to move well.

Not sure whether you need Cardiff Bay or The Vale Hospital?

Don't worry, you're not the only one. It's one of the questions we're asked most often.

📍 Cardiff Bay is where you'll usually come for consultations, scans and day-case treatment.
📍 The Vale Hospital is where surgery and overnight stays take place, including our joint replacement centre.

Many patients visit both as part of their care, so you don't need to work out where to go yourself.

Just get in touch and we'll guide you every step of the way.

"It's just my age."

We hear it about hips constantly.

But hip pain isn't something you have to accept as you get older. It usually has a cause, and most causes can be treated.

Worth paying attention to if:

✔️ It hurts in your groin rather than the side of your hip
✔️ It's stiff first thing in the morning
✔️ You've started avoiding stairs or long walks

If it's changing what you do, it's worth getting looked at.

A lot of people put off getting something checked simply because they don't know what to expect.

So here's what a visit to Cardiff Bay actually looks like.

📍 You park on site
📍 You check in at reception and wait somewhere quiet
📍 You see your consultant, and if you need a scan it's usually in the same building
📍 You leave with a plan, and a name to contact

That's it.

Cardiff Bay is for consultations, scans and day-case treatment. Overnight stays happen at The Vale, twelve miles away.

Poor sleep isn't always down to stress.

For many men in their 50s and 60s, an enlarged prostate means waking up several times a night to use the toilet.

Broken sleep can affect energy, mood and concentration, but it's something many men keep to themselves.

The good news is that it's common, and there are ways to manage it.

If these symptoms sound familiar, don't ignore them. Speaking to your GP is a good first step.
