At AWMGS, we know that mental health is just as important as physical health. This year, Mental Health Foundation Mental Health Awareness Week is about moving from awareness to action - taking small, meaningful steps to support mental wellbeing, for ourselves and for others.

Our AWMGS Wellbeing and Social Team will be engaging our staff in various activities this week that can improve mental health, from crafting hour and bake sales to wellbeing walks and Mental Health Actions Bingo, we'll be encouraging conversation, compassion, action and support amongst peers💚

We had the pleasure of meeting the Brain and Genomics Hub Team at the Genomics Showcase! Part of the UK wide Mental Health Platform, the Brain and Genomics Hub brings together researchers, clinicians and real people with real lived experience to improve understanding, diagnosis and treatment of severe mental illnesses such as bi-polar, schizophrenia and psychosis.

Some of our talented colleagues during their talk today at the - 'A look into the All Wales Medical Genomics Lab : from DNA to data' - the team gave insight into the processes behind the scenes, covering everything from DNA sample processing to interpreting the data collected. What a great day! It was a privilege seeing all our partners in action and having the chance to speak to so many organisations that we work with, we'll be shining a spotlight on some of the fantastic teams we had the pleasure of working alongside today! Starting with Advanced Therapies Wales - the only programme of it's kind in the UK, they coordinate activities across research, clinical delivery and strategic planning to deliver the benefits of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products and improve patient outcomes in health, wellbeing and prosperity across Wales.

Wales' Genomic Strategy is transforming healthcare, and most importantly, improving patient outcomes. Our patients' voices will be central to this event, you'll get to hear their stories of lived experience.

We are delighted to share that this week, we entered our transition period from our existing Laboratory Information System to our new Genetic Laboratory Information System - GLIMS with the system finally going LIVE yesterday.

This is a major milestone for AWMGS that will bring a modern, sustainable and fully interoperable platform to our service. This upgrade will significantly enhance how we work across the organisation and, most importantly, improve the quality, safety and efficiency of care we deliver for our patients.

The scale of this development and implementation has been immense. Our Project Team, together with our Laboratory Teams and colleagues across the service, have shown exceptional dedication, expertise and collaboration throughout. Their commitment has been instrumental in bringing this complex programme to life.

The build‑up to launch has been both highly anticipated and incredibly exciting, and we are proud to be moving into this next chapter with such strong momentum and support.
With thanks to SCC Soft Computer for their determination and support in developing this software to meet the complex needs of our service and continuing to support us on-site through the transition period.
