Diabetes can affect much more than blood sugar — it can also have a significant impact on your eye health.

In the early stages, changes to vision often happen gradually and without obvious symptoms. That’s why regular eye checks are so important for people living with diabetes.

In our latest blog for Diabetes Week, we explore how diabetes can affect the eyes, the conditions to be aware of, and the simple steps that can help protect your vision over time.

Because early detection makes all the difference when it comes to preventing sight loss.

Blood donation plays a vital role in healthcare — supporting patients during surgery, trauma care, cancer treatment, and more ❤️

It relies entirely on voluntary donors, as blood cannot be manufactured in a laboratory.

A powerful story of determination and teamwork 💙

A couple is preparing to take on a 10-mile “blind walk” to raise funds for MyVision Oxfordshire. Andreas Findlow, who has been blind for 9 years, will be joined by his husband Darren, who will complete the entire route blindfolded as part of the challenge.

The walk will begin at Oxford University Rugby Club and follow the river towards Iffley, with Darren relying on a guide and carefully learned communication cues to navigate safely.

Anne Hathaway recently opened up about experiencing Cataracts in her 30s — something many people don’t realise can happen, even though it’s relatively rare at a younger age.

What’s interesting is how gradual vision changes can be easy to dismiss. Blurred vision, more glare at night, colours seeming duller… these changes often happen slowly, making it hard to notice just how much your sight has changed over time.

While cataracts are most common later in life, any persistent change in your vision is worth paying attention to 👁️

If you’ve noticed your eyesight isn’t quite what it used to be, our guide explains the common signs, symptoms, and causes of cataracts: https://champ.ly/tHst5mZO

Regular eye exams can help spot changes early — sometimes before you notice them yourself.

Rare doesn’t mean impossible 👁️
Cataracts aren’t just an “older age” condition — and vision changes can be so gradual you barely notice them.
That’s why regular eye tests matter more than we think.

Many people assume cataract surgery means they won’t need glasses anymore.

That isn’t always the case.

Cataract surgery replaces the cloudy natural lens with a clear artificial lens, which improves vision significantly. But whether you still need glasses afterwards depends on the type of lens chosen and what you use your eyes for day to day.

Some lens options are designed mainly for distance vision, meaning you may still need glasses for reading or close work. Others can reduce dependence on glasses, but may come with trade-offs in certain situations.

The key point: cataract surgery improves vision, but glasses needs afterwards vary from person to person.

New research is adding to the growing conversation around screen time and eye health 👀📱

As digital device use continues to rise, so do concerns around eye strain, dry eyes, headaches, and increasing rates of myopia (short-sightedness) — particularly in younger people.

An important reminder that regular eye examinations, screen breaks, and healthy visual habits matter more than ever in a digital world.

This Myopia Awareness Week 2026 👀 we’re shining a light on one of the fastest-growing vision concerns worldwide.

Myopia (short-sightedness) is increasing at an alarming rate, especially in children and young adults; and often progresses gradually without obvious early symptoms.

The good news is there’s a lot we can do to help reduce risk and slow progression:
🌳 Spend more time outdoors
📱 Take regular screen breaks
👁️ Book routine eye examinations
📚 Encourage healthy visual habits in children

Early awareness is key. Small changes today can help protect long-term vision.

Let’s work together to keep sight clearer for the future 💙

Your eyes weren’t designed to stay locked on one distance all day 👀📵

Reading a physical book or doing hands-on analog activities makes your eyes naturally shift focus—close, far, close again. That gentle “workout” helps reduce the stiff, tired feeling you get from staring at screens for hours (aka locked-focus fatigue).

Sometimes the healthiest thing for your eyes is simply going back to basics 📖✨
