I ran my first ever half marathon on international women’s day! What a day for it! 💪🏻💪🏻 still so proud of myself.

It signifies so much for me.

First, to prove to myself that I could do it if I wanted to.

Then to put the training in and being consistent.

My aim for the race to start with was not to stop running. I didn’t care what time I did it in, I just didn’t want to stop.

Then when people told me I could do it in sub 2 hours based on what I was managing with my training, I didn’t doubt what they were saying. Instead I thought “why the hell not, of course I can do it”

If this was 5 years ago, or even 2 years ago, my mindset would have been completely different.

I wouldn’t have been all in. I wouldn’t had believed I could do it without stopping. I would have been complaining, doubting myself, and having an internal battle questioning why I had decided to do it.

This year, all I had going round in my head is “I’ve got this!”

“I am going to absolutely smash it!”

“I can do it in less than 2 hours!”

So what’s the difference? What’s the trick?

1. Surround yourself with people who believe in you and are doing the things you think are completely out of your reach. Because you will rise to where they are. I am surrounded by so many strong and inspiring people these days, who I am lucky to call friends. I couldn’t be more lucky!

2. Question that self talk. Where does it come from? Why do you think you can’t do something? Is it true?

3. Learn about who you are, understand yourself and love all your quirks! Because others see the best in you, when you see the worst.

You can do whatever you want to when you believe in yourself and are surrounded by the right people.

You are unstoppable!

It takes time for me to soften, because of all that I have experienced, to learn to trust people again. But with the right people around you, it can happen.

To tell you about today

As a general rule I don’t like Tuesdays. They are such a nothing day. Today was no exception.

I fell asleep before getting ready for bed last night. You know those times when you know you should get ready because you can feel yourself drifting off but CBA to move. Then the next thing you know your 3 episodes ahead and waking up with the light on.

So today didn’t start great.

The fogginess was real. I struggled to concentrate on my full monotonous work, with my mind all over the place.

Then it all seemed to change at lunch. I had a positive conversation with a recruiter who gave me some great tips and didn’t bat an eye when I told him what I was after.

It’s amazing what one conversation can do for you!

There is hope for me yet!

I finished the day with a wander after work managing to dodge the rain.

Quick dinner and back to finding that job I know is out there.

Then a nice relaxing bath with a meditation 🧘🏼

So the lesson here: just because your day started crappy doesn’t mean it has to stay that way!
