What can we see with a skin scanner? 🧐

Well, quite a lot of things that aren’t easily visible to the naked eye.

For example, we can often tell whether you’ve been consistent with SPF use or not, as sun damage beneath the skin can be clearly revealed through the scan. 👀

At MEDICA, we use the OBSERV 520x skin scanner, which captures images from 5 facial angles using 8 specialised modes and 10 lights.

This allows us to analyse your skin at different depths and from multiple perspectives, revealing concerns that may not be visible under normal lighting.

Using these advanced imaging modes, we can assess:

Harley is 3 years old and has been a familiar face at MEDICA for quite some time, often accompanying his dad on visits to the clinic.

After countless visits, plenty of tail wags and an impeccable attendance record, we decided it was only fair to make things official.

With extensive experience under his collar, Harley brings a wealth of expertise to the role, including:

Treatments are never one-size-fits-all.

While your aesthetic goals matter, age can also play a role in determining which treatments are more suitable for your skin because your skin concerns naturally evolve over time.

That’s why we always start with a proper skin assessment using a skin scanner and a conversation about your goals before recommending any treatments. Even if you come in with a specific treatment in mind, it may not always be the most appropriate option for your skin at that moment and we’ll always be honest about that.

Does microneedling hurt? 👀

Well… there are definitely things in life that hurt more than microneedling. Especially if you’re in your 40s, when certain pains no longer need any explanation between women. 😂

Ever sneezed while your back was slightly twisted? Or stood up too fast and briefly seen the gates of heaven? Or convinced yourself you could still wear heels “just for tonight”?

Ever come across the term “broad-spectrum” when shopping for sunscreen and never really looked into what it means?

When it comes to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, there are two main types: UVA and UVB. Both damage the skin, but in different ways.

SPF measures protection against UVB rays, which are primarily responsible for sunburn and contribute to skin cancer risk. However, it does not directly measure protection against UVA rays, which are linked to skin ageing, pigmentation and long-term skin damage.

This is where broad-spectrum protection becomes important. It indicates that a sunscreen helps protect against both UVA and UVB rays.

Broad-spectrum sunscreens achieve this by combining different types of UV filters:�chemical filters that absorb UV radiation and mineral filters (such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide) that reflect or scatter UV rays. Together, they provide more complete daily protection in a single formula.
