When the foot catches during walking, it’s easy to focus only on the ankle.
But walking is a whole-body task.
Reduced foot clearance can be influenced by how well someone transfers their weight onto the other leg, how the pelvis moves, the timing of hip and knee flexion, trunk control, sensory information and the ability of the ankle to adapt at the right moment.
That’s why simply strengthening the ankle isn’t always enough.
In neurological rehabilitation, we look at the movement as a whole: where the movement is breaking down, why it is happening, and what needs to change to make walking more efficient.
Sometimes, improving what happens at the foot means working somewhere completely different.
🧠 Treat the movement, not just the symptom.
