For years I focused on being as lean and toned as possible. And honestly, that’s still important to me as there is nothing wrong with wanting to look good. 🩷

But perimenopause changed everything. When your energy disappears, your mood swings and you stop feeling like yourself, you suddenly realise that feeling good is the whole point. It’s the foundation everything else is built on.🙌

Now I focus on waking up with energy, feeling strong in my workouts. Feeling clear headed and present. Feeling happy in my body, not just happy with how it looks.

And the beautiful thing? When you focus on feeling good, looking good follows.. every single time. 🩷

This summer I’m not chasing a number on the scales. I’m chasing a feeling.🩷 Because somewhere along the way I realised that looking good is the result of feeling good, not the other way around.

When you’re eating well, moving your body, sleeping properly, protecting your energy and actually listening to what you need, confidence follows. Naturally, without forcing it. And listening to what you need looks different for everyone. For me recently that’s meant getting my hormones properly checked again and starting testosterone and honestly the difference in my energy levels has been extraordinary. Sometimes lifestyle alone isn’t enough and you might want to consider if your body needs extra support. 🩷

So many of us stop listening to what we want because we are used to prioritising everyone else first. I know I have been like this in the past. And last week I was having this exact conversation with a couple of my clients……yes we need to look after our loved ones, so very true… but what about looking after yourself too?
If you aren’t flourishing and giving to yourself then believe me you will finally end up in survival mode as you can’t pour from an empty cup. Believe me….🤗

We all need help and support to prosper and grow.
Instead of fire fighting, and putting yourself to the bottom of the pile … have a think about what you want..

Those who transform their lives aren’t the ones who find more willpower, they are the ones who get honest about what they actually need and stop doing it on their own. That’s it. You can be doing everything right and still feel dreadful if your hormones are out of balance.

I am such a huge advocate for women’s health and I want to talk about something really important today.
We talk a lot about the things we can do to look after ourselves and they all matter so much.
❤️Hydration
❤️Protein and fibre at every meal
❤️Lots of micro nutrients
❤️Daily movement and steps
❤️Strength training
❤️Sleep and proper rest
❤️Self care and stress management
❤️Having the right people around us

All of it. Every single bit of it makes a difference. But here’s what I also want you to hear, don’t forget your hormones.🩷
Because you can be doing everything right and still feel absolutely dreadful if your hormones are out of balance. And so many women are walking around feeling exhausted, tearful, dizzy, anxious and unlike themselves and just putting up with it. Thinking it’s just part of getting older, like I was…Please don’t just push through.
I speak from very recent personal experience here.

Earlier this year I have felt so tired, so dizzy, so emotional and just not myself at all. My testosterone levels had completely plummeted and actually they were very low last year too and should have been addressed sooner.

Just over 2 weeks on testosterone gel and I feel like myself again. My energy is back, I feel like me. And I am so incredibly grateful. It’s absolutely insane the difference for me…

The brilliant Dr Louise Newson always says that hormones are vitally important as is sleep, nutrition, exercise, stress and the way we live our lives every day. We need to look at the full picture. And I couldn’t agree more.🙏 So if you’re feeling below par - tired, emotional, wired, dizzy, low, please get your hormones tested. All of them. Ostrogen, progesterone AND testosterone. Don’t let anyone fob you off. You deserve to feel well.

So the last few years have been a struggle as I was frustrated with myself, doing everything I used to do and wondering why nothing was working anymore.😤

For years I ran and I loved it. But my body started telling me it was too much. I was exhausted, wired and running on empty. So I swapped my runs for walks, proper, nourishing, soul-filling walks and things started to feel a bit better. 🩷 I then cut my cardio right down and I added more weights. I also started stretching more. And most importantly, I finally started listening when my body said it needed rest. Proper rest. Not just an early night but genuine recovery time and not just pushing or overriding myself, like I could and did in the past…

It felt counterintuitive at first. Doing less to feel more? But it worked. And I see this with so many women who come to me too. They’re doing everything they used to do, the same workouts, the same routines and blaming themselves when it stops working. But it’s not you. 🩷

Your body in your 40s and 50s is different to the one you had in your 30s. Your hormones are shifting. Your nervous system responds differently. What worked brilliantly before just doesn’t like it used to and that is not your fault. The approach needs to be tweaked to match you as you are now.
And I want to mention something else that has been a game changer for me personally - HRT. I know it’s not for everyone and that’s absolutely fine -it’s such a personal decision. But body identical hormones have made a real difference to my life. I’ve been following the incredible Louise Newson for some time and have been tweaking my dose over the months under my doc.. Most recently I’ve just started testosterone, and honestly, just 11 days in my energy is coming back and brain cognition too - I’m so grateful.🎉🩷 If you’ve been struggling and haven’t explored your hormone options yet , it’s worth the conversation with your doctor.
