✅️Some back to school tips✅️
💫Good luck to all the kids starting their school journey and to all the kids getting back to school 💫
✨️💫Back to school prep ✨️💫
New school year- New start
We all need routine back in our lives and that's exactly how the kids feel too. We have all the material things ready to go but how do we prepare our kids? Here are a few tips for getting back into routine
1. Practice-Begin your morning routine over the next few days to get back into the early morning starts - Get up before everyone else has to wake up to hit the ground running ( essential coffee before the fun begins ☕️ 😌 perhaps some yoga/ stretches/ breathwork to waken and energize the body- my little people absolutely love doing this with me and it's hilarious)
2. Prep your kids by giving a countdown of how many sleeps, talk about the school day, teachers names, if you have a visual/ social story for school take some time at night or in the morning to go through this
3. Help your kids express their feelings about getting back to school/ day care setting and model this yourself by expressing your own big feelings
4. Get them involved- give closed choices for breakfast, clothing etc to give some control over the routine ( choosing socks, pants vest, coat if there are available options)
5. If Your child is anxious perhaps a transitional item could help- allow your child to pick an item or toy to take in the car for the drop off! The book "the invisible string" is fab to help kids feel connected to you when they are at school
6. Leave 15 minutes free before you have to leave the house for those last minute toilet trips, to get the bags in the car and so it doesn't feel chaotic for the parents or kiddos 🤪
7. and breathe....
8. After school make some " present" time with your child to debrief the day if they wish to talk or just be right there with them- its more likely that kids will hold in any overwhelm or big feelings until they get home (after school restraint)so support them to unpack all of those feelings and again breathe through it all 😌
other options - a visual checklist for morning routine , Using tv/ a game as a reward for ticking off all of the steps on the routine.
