The School Run Can Be Tough on Your Body!

September means school runs are back!

And while you’re thinking about packed lunches, PE kits and making sure everyone gets out of the door on time, your body might be feeling the effects too.

Carrying school bags, lifting younger children, rushing around and spending more time in the car can all add extra strain.

And let’s be honest… how often do you end up carrying everyone else’s things as well as your own? 😂

Try to:

✔️ Alternate which side you carry bags on
✔️ Avoid carrying everything in one hand
✔️ Use both hands when lifting
✔️ Take a moment to stretch and move after longer car journeys

Looking after yourself is just as important as looking after everyone else.

Back to Routine… Is Your Body Ready?

September often feels like a fresh start.

The holidays are over, children are back at school, work routines return and suddenly life becomes busy again.

But after a more relaxed summer, jumping straight back into your usual routine can sometimes leave your body feeling the strain.

Long days at a desk, commuting, carrying bags, school runs and getting back into exercise can all contribute to:

• Neck and shoulder tension
• Lower back stiffness
• Headaches
• Aching hips and joints
• General fatigue and muscle tension

Try not to go from holiday mode to full speed overnight.

Build your routine back gradually, keep moving throughout the day and listen to those little niggles before they become bigger problems.

At Charlotte Hunt Osteopaths, we can help you get your body moving comfortably again and ready for the months ahead.

Don’t Ignore Those Little Niggles

We’ve all done it…

“It’ll be fine in a few days.”

“I’ll just rest it.”

“It’s only a little ache.”

Sometimes those small niggles disappear—but sometimes they’re your body’s early warning signs.

A recurring ache, stiffness that keeps coming back or pain that appears during certain activities may indicate that your body isn’t moving as efficiently as it could.

At Charlotte Hunt Osteopaths, we often find that addressing small problems early is much easier than waiting until they become bigger ones.

Why Does My Back Hurt After DIY?

Summer often means catching up on those jobs around the house.

Painting, decorating, building furniture or clearing out the garage may not feel like exercise—but they all place repeated stress on your body.

Pain often develops because we:
• Stay in awkward positions for too long
• Twist while lifting
• Forget to take breaks
• Attempt jobs our bodies aren’t used to

Instead of trying to finish everything in one day, spread larger jobs over several days and give your body time to recover.

Your back will thank you for it.

Holiday Travel Doesn’t Have to Mean Back Pain

Whether you’re travelling by car, plane or train, long journeys can leave you feeling stiff and uncomfortable.

Remaining in one position for hours can cause:
• Tight hips
• Lower back stiffness
• Neck and shoulder tension
• Swollen legs and feet

A few simple habits can make a big difference:
• Stop regularly if you’re driving
• Walk around whenever possible
• Stretch your legs and shoulders
• Drink plenty of water throughout your journey

Looking after your body while travelling means you’re ready to enjoy your holiday from the moment you arrive.

Enjoy Summer Without the Aches

Summer is often a time when we’re more active than usual. Whether it’s long walks, days at the beach, gardening, DIY projects or entertaining family and friends, our bodies are often doing much more than they have in the colder months.

While staying active is fantastic for your health, sudden increases in activity can sometimes leave muscles and joints feeling sore or overloaded.

If you’re planning busy days this summer, remember to:
✔️ Pace yourself
✔️ Take regular breaks
✔️ Stay hydrated
✔️ Listen to your body’s warning signs

At Charlotte Hunt Osteopaths, we believe prevention is just as important as treatment. Looking after your body now can help you enjoy everything summer has to offer.

Prevent Problems Before They Start

Looking after your body isn’t just about reacting to pain — it’s about staying ahead of it.

When your body moves well and feels balanced:
✨ Everyday activities feel easier
✨ You recover more quickly
✨ You’re less likely to experience setbacks

At Charlotte Hunt Osteopaths, the focus is on supporting your body long-term — helping you stay active, comfortable and confident in how you move.

You Don’t Need to Be in Pain to Seek Treatment

A common misconception is that you should only seek treatment when something hurts.

In reality, many people benefit from osteopathy when they:
• Feel stiff or restricted
• Notice small recurring niggles
• Want to improve movement or performance

At Charlotte Hunt Osteopaths, we often see that addressing issues early leads to better long-term outcomes.

Your Sleep Position Could Be Affecting Your Pain

Sleep is when your body recovers — but your position matters more than you might think.

Poor positioning can lead to:
• Neck stiffness
• Lower back discomfort
• Shoulder pain

Simple changes, like pillow support or alignment, can help reduce strain overnight.

If you’re waking up feeling stiff or uncomfortable, your body may not be fully relaxing while you sleep.

Hydration & Muscle Health

Hydration plays a bigger role in how your body feels than many people realise.

When you’re dehydrated, muscles can become:
• Tighter
• More prone to cramping
• Slower to recover

This is especially important during warmer months or increased activity.

Supporting your body doesn’t always mean doing more — sometimes it’s about giving it what it needs.
