🏃‍♂️ Third time lucky!

I’m delighted to announce that I’ve secured a ballot place in the 2027 TCS London Marathon!

My first two London Marathons, in 2025 and 2026, were both charity places, so getting through the ballot this time feels pretty special. And there’s an extra twist… I’ll be taking part in “The Double”, running the marathon on the Saturday of the two day event!

After running 4:01:10 in 2025 and a new PB of 3:53:50 in 2026, I’m looking forward to having another go in 2027. The aim is simply to enjoy it, hopefully beat that PB, and raise plenty of money along the way.

This year I’ve chosen to support Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex (KSS) 🚁. As an osteopath, I’ve heard some incredibly moving stories from clients about people whose lives have been saved by the KSS crews, and I’ve wanted to support them for some time.

I’ve set myself a personal goal of £3,000, although there’s no official target. If you’d like to help me get the fundraising started, I’d be hugely grateful.

Thank you!

❤️🏃‍♂️🚁

☀️ Is the heat affecting your body?

We all love a bit of sunshine… but when the temperature rises, your body has to work harder to keep you cool.

That can mean more than just feeling hot. 🥵
You might notice:

💧 More dehydration and fatigue
🦶 Swollen feet, ankles or hands
💪 Muscle cramps and stiffness
🤕 More headaches
🦴 Changes in how your joints feel
😴 Poorer sleep on hot nights

And if you're exercising, gardening, playing sport or simply spending more time outdoors, the heat can add another challenge.

In my latest NCTV health tip, Heatwave Health, I explain why hot weather can affect your muscles and joints and share some simple ways to stay comfortable, hydrated and active when temperatures rise.

What's the heat affecting most for you? Your energy, sleep, joints or something else?

🏖️ Skelios & Stella are back from Crete! 🇬🇷

Skelios couldn’t wait to introduce his new girlfriend, Stella, to one of his absolute favourite places in the world: the stunning Greek island of Crete! ☀️

As you can see, they had an absolute blast dressing up for the occasion and spending hours building sandcastles on the beach (while I, Nikos aka Nick, took in the scenery! 🌊).

Popping past the clinic in Storrington?
Keep an eye on our window to catch them in their latest summer attire and accessories!

Whether you're packing your bags or just getting back from a getaway, here are 4 quick tips to keep your spine happy this summer:

1️⃣ Lift Luggage Wisely: Bend your knees and pivot your feet, don't twist your spine while slinging heavy suitcases into the car or off the baggage carousel.
2️⃣ Beware the "Sunbed Neck": Reading flat on your stomach with your back arched for hours is a fast track to neck stiffness. Change positions often!
3️⃣ Support on the Sand: Walking on soft sand is a great workout, but if you have foot or lower back issues, mix in some firm ground or supportive footwear.
4️⃣ Hydrate for your Joints: Dehydration makes joint cartilage and muscles far more prone to cramping and stiffness, especially in the heat.

I’m in the clinic all summer long, so if pre-holiday prep or post-travel travel stiffness is getting the better of you, I'm here to help!

👇 Where are you off to this summer? Let us know in the comments!

🦁🦁🦁 Skelios and Stella have still got that winning feeling!

Anyone else still catching their breath after that dramatic quarter-final win against Norway? 😅

Our clinic skeleton Skelios and his brand-new buddy Stella are absolutely jubilant here in the practice! They spent the weekend cheering on the Three Lions, and let's just say they are fully ready to keep the momentum going.

Next up: a historic showdown against reigning world champions Argentina this Wednesday night! ⚽🏆

Skelios is currently making sure his posture is perfectly aligned for 90 minutes of nervous edge-of-the-seat tension, while Stella is already practicing her flag-waving. We can't wait to see if England can book their place in the big final this Sunday!

🪵 The Begonias look fantastic... but can you actually straighten your back?

Now that we’re into June, gardens across West Sussex are bursting into life. But along with more lawnmower and hedge trimmer sightings, I’m seeing a big spike in gardening-related injuries at the clinic!

Around 300,000 gardening injuries happen in the UK every year (and that’s before we even mention the emotional damage caused by the slugs... 🐌).

The biggest mistake? Trying to recreate Kew Gardens in a single weekend.

Going from a quiet winter straight into 5 hours of digging, lifting, and crouching is like running a marathon without training. Your enthusiasm says "just one more flower bed," but your lower back says "absolutely not."

Here are 4 ways to garden smarter this week:
1️⃣ Warm Up first: You’d warm up for tennis or football, so why not before wrestling a hedge? 2 minutes of shoulder rolls and gentle squats make a massive difference to cold muscles.
2️⃣ Teamwork for your back: When lifting heavy compost bags or pots, bend your knees and pivot your feet. Never bend and twist at the same time.
3️⃣ Don't fold like garden furniture: Avoid prolonged crouching. Use a kneeling pad, change positions every 20 minutes, and keep moving.
4️⃣ Listen to your body: Pushing through sharp pain isn't a badge of honour. If you're walking like a rusty wheelbarrow by Sunday evening, it's time to stop!

How Osteopathy Helps:
If you’ve overdone it, you don't have to put down the trowel for good. We work to improve joint mobility, ease stiffness, and get you moving comfortably again so you can enjoy your garden pain-free.

🏃‍♂️ Thinking of lacing up the trainers this June? Read this first!

With the warmer weather and lighter evenings, so many of us in the Horsham district and beyond are feeling that urge to get outside and run. Whether it’s Couch to 5k, targeting the local parkrun or just trying to get moving again, running is brilliant for your health.

But it comes with one small catch... if you do too much, too soon, your body will let you know about it.

Most running injuries aren’t bad luck. They happen because of load vs. capacity, simply doing more than your muscles and joints are currently prepared for.

Here are 5 quick rules to keep you pain-free:
1️⃣ The 10% Rule: Increase your distance or time by no more than 10% per week. Your future self will thank you!
2️⃣ Embrace the Walk: Run-walk intervals aren't cheating; they build joint resilience safely.
3️⃣ Rest is Productive: You don't actually get fitter during the run, you get fitter after, when your body adapts and repairs.
4️⃣ Strength > Cardio: Strong glutes, calves, and a solid core absorb the road impact so your knees don't have to.
5️⃣ Listen to the Whispers: A small ni**le is your body whispering. Ignore it, and it will start shouting.

How Osteopathy Keeps You Moving:
If you're building up your mileage, we can help ensure your joints are moving freely, address underlying imbalances, and nip those early ni**les in the bud before they turn into weeks of forced rest.

26.2 miles later… I DID IT! 🏅

After 16 weeks of training, I crossed the TCS London Marathon finish line on The Mall with an official chip time of 3:53:50.

Coming in under my 4-hour goal was the dream, but doing it in my bright orange St Catherine's Hospice, Crawley shirt made it so much more special.

A massive thank you to everyone who tracked me on the app, sent messages, and to Rachael Coysh and Rory for being the best support crew out on the course.

If you’d like to help me celebrate and push the total for St Catherine's Hospice beyond its current incredible £6152, the link is still live below.

Every penny makes those sore legs worth it!

It’s Marathon’s Eve! 🏃‍♂️🇬🇧

All the prep is done and I’m ready to take on the 26.2 miles of the TCS London Marathon tomorrow!

I’m also incredibly humbled to see that my fundraising for St Catherine's Hospice, Crawley is sitting over £6,000! If you have a spare few pounds to help push it up even further, the link is below - every single donation means the world to me and the hospice. 🧡

If you’d like to follow me tomorrow you can track my progress on the official TCS London Marathon App and search for my name or bib 17516.

Also, if you’re watching from home, you can send me a ‘Belief Booster’ message through the app. These pop up on the big screens along the course and I’ll be looking for them when things get tough!

As seen in the pic, I’ll be wearing my bright orange St Catherine’s shirt, so please give me a shout if you’re lining the streets!

⛷️ As we reach the tail end of the winter sports season and with the Winter Paralympics currently showcasing some incredible athletes, many people are returning from ski trips with great memories… and the odd ache or injury.

Whether it’s skiing, snowboarding, or even just the travel, I’ve been seeing a rise in:

- Knee strains
- Shoulder & wrist injuries
- Back stiffness and muscle tightness

If that sounds familiar, here are a few simple tips to help:

- Don’t ignore it, small injuries can linger if left too long
- Keep it gently moving, complete rest isn’t always the answer
- Use heat (or ice early on) to help settle symptoms
- Ease back into activity gradually rather than jumping straight back in

If things aren’t settling as expected, osteopathy can help restore movement, reduce tension and support your recovery so you can get back to feeling yourself again.

🎥 I’ve covered this in more detail in my latest NCTV video, have a watch if you’ve recently been away or are planning ahead for next season.

Did the weather this winter leave you feeling a bit flat? 🥶🌧️ You’re not alone.

Many people experience the winter blues or Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), when darker days can affect mood, energy and motivation.

It can also show up physically too, with people often noticing more aches, stiffness and general heaviness in the body.

A few simple things that can really help:

- Get outside during daylight: even on grey days, natural light helps regulate your body clock.

- Keep moving: gentle, regular movement like walking, stretching or yoga can boost mood and circulation.

- Support your sleep routine: consistent bedtimes and reducing late-night screen time can help improve sleep quality.

- Fuel your body well: regular meals and staying hydrated support steady energy levels.

- Stay connected: low mood often makes us withdraw, but even small social interactions can lift mood.

When mood dips, the body often tightens and moves less which is where treatments like osteopathy can sometimes help by improving movement, easing tension and helping people feel more comfortable being active again.

If winter weighed on your body or your mood, support is available and brighter days are on the way.

If you’d like to learn more, NCTV has it covered, explaining what SAD is and providing some practical things you can do to help yourself (link in the comments).
