Cyclists’ pain and how we can help ...
Muscle imbalance in the pelvis is as common in cyclists as in runners.
There are so many muscles which originate or insert into the pelvis, that it is no surprise that when tightness occurs due to overload, then the surrounding muscles are affected too. This then leads to muscle imbalance which in turn leads to a decrease in function.

Some of the symptoms you may be experiencing if you have pelvic muscle imbalance:
1. Tight adductors
2. Lateral and medial knee pain
3. Tight glutes/hamstrings
4. Lower back pain

Overuse can create compensation to occur – the hip flexors, which play a huge role in spinal flexibility and pelvic muscle balance, adapt to a lengthened position which can cause shortening of the hamstrings, so placing increased load elsewhere in the body.

Injuries also create compensations, therefore it is so important to look after your body. Our sports massage and injury team apply the necessary soft tissue treatment required in order to re establish the necessary balance.
