Everyone on my newsletter got one this morning, one each. These five are for you lot on here. Give this a like and a comment so it travels, and if they are all gone by the time you get here, DM me and I will send you one anyway. Nobody misses out.

Workshops this weekend:

Sat 12 Sep, 12:00, Seaweed Taster. Ninety minutes on the upper shore, learning the common edible seaweeds and tasting what I have made from them.

Sun 13 Sep, 10:30, On the Rocks. Four hours in the intertidal, you gather it, we cook it over the fire, and eat a five course meal from what you found. Seven places left.

Then 21 Sep, 10 Oct, and 11 Oct with one place going.

The big autumn tides are some of the best foraging of the year, so these are good ones to catch.

Two things on the new site are free for anyone on this coast, whether you forage, walk, swim or paddle. The East Neuk Tide Planner shows the next spring tide windows on our shore and which seaweeds each one uncovers. And the Elie Chain Walk page has a live tide chart and this week's safe windows, so nobody starts that scramble on a rising tide.

Recipes and three short films on there too.

See you on the shore.

From ocean floor to forest canopy.

Same red bucket, hours apart: A trusty companion.

A still-life portrait of what the day provided — tidal treasures by morning, sun-ripened abandoned orchard sweets by afternoon.

Proof that nature’s pantry never closes, you've just got to show up !

Two events for me this weekend, one either side of Fife.

Saturday 15 August, Bowhouse, St Monans, East Neuk
I'll be giving an introduction to Seaweed Foraging, 3:30pm for an hour covering what's out there, how to gather it responsibly, and how it fits into everyday cooking. Free, but booking is essential.
https://events.humanitix.com/introduction-to-seaweed-foraging-jayson-byles

It's part of Land & Sea, an art and photography exhibition running at Bowhouse from 15 August to 6 September, open Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm. There's a full programme of free talks and tours across the 15th and 16th, and paid workshops the following weekend. Worth making a day of it: https://www.spacetobreatheexpo.com/events26

Then on Sunday 16 August, Dunfermline Food and Drinks Festival
Seaweed demonstration in the Main Indoor Arena at 2:15pm, with free tasters. Free to attend.

Plenty on there too across both days, including chef demos, wh**ky and gin classes at Knockhill Distillery, a cheese pairing session, kids' cooking workshops, willow weaving, and a couple of eating competitions if that's your thing!

As you may already know I've been gathering wild food all my life, first in New Zealand and for the last decade here in Scotland. A stint managing a seaweed harvest taught me a lot about what grows on this coast, and I've been trying to pass that on ever since. Come and say hello at either one or go explore!

A massive thank you to Christine for these stunning pictures from a recent Seaweed Experience. There's nothing quite like getting your hands in the water, learning to forage straight from the shore, and discovering how to prepare seaweed into something delicious ( have a look on my tripadvisor to see what participants say themselves 🙂 )

We've got a few last-minute places left for Sunday's four-hour workshop. Come and join in and find out why so many people are falling in love with foraging along the East Neuk coast.

If these dates don't suit you and you want some seaweed magic ✨, have a look on my website to find one that does....

Really looking forward to this Scottish Wild Food Festival. Have a look at the web page for more information :)

Reposting Scottish Wild Food Festival 📢 Delighted to announce our first paid session highlight for this year's festival.
The very talented and knowledgeable Jayson Byles of East Neuk Seaweed will be with us again for a fabulous lunchtime offering. Join him to learn not just about the techniques and ingredients that go into his coastally inspired menus, but also the bigger picture of stewardship and conscious care of the shoreline and its gifts.

Extra summer dates just added.

The workshops have been selling out, so if you've been meaning to come out to the shore, one of these might suit.

On the Rocks
18th July, 11am
2nd Aug, 10:30am
15th Aug, 10am
29th Aug, 9am

Seaweed Taster
19th July, 12:30pm
1st Aug, 10:30am

Not sure which one? Here's the difference.
The Taster is 90 minutes on the upper shore. You'll learn to identify common edible seaweeds and shore plants, hear about their place in Scottish food and culture, and try a few pre-prepared dishes. A proper introduction and an easy way in.

On the Rocks is four hours in the intertidal. You forage the seaweed yourself, then we cook it over an open fire and eat a five-course tasting menu made from what you gathered that morning. You go deeper, see more species, and get properly hands-on. We can suit your needs for dietary requirements

It often comes down to timing. Four hours on the beach is a luxury not everyone can spare, but from the feedback I've had, it's well worth it. Both are a good grounding. It just depends on your time, your budget and how deep you want to go.

Thank you to the lovely for this video was so good to wander on the beach with you and share more on all the delicious seaweeds in the East Neuk.

As you may expect World Oceans Day is a busy time for me, and this year I was lucky to support three different schools to learn more about seaweed. Hopefully it made a splash there!

I also participated in a wonderful day in Newburgh. It was put together by Cally Nurse seaweed artist extraordinare.

if I could ask people one thing, it would be to make sure you sign the petition ahead of them taking it to parliament on the 23rd of this month. It is such an important campaign for our future oceans, health, and of course planetary health. Link in my bio !

Thanks to these words from Emily Get • This week it was World Ocean Day, and so in celebration join me on the beach getting some foraging tips from Jayson Byles of

Jayson is passionate about the ocean and the role that foraging can play in sustainable lifestyles that help protect nature in all forms. He is an avid member of the Our Seas Coalition ( ) and The Association of Foragers ( ). I highly recommend checking out both of these groups and seeing whether you can get involved 🙂

For more information about how to safely forage seaweed (or even sign up for one of his fantastic workshops) check out more of Jayson's work via his website eastneukseaweed.com

And if you're new here and want to see more from me, check out the linktree in the bio/info section for links to my Patreon, my shop, my website, my other socials, all sorts of things! If in doubt look for EmilyDubious on your platform of choice, I'm probably there!

Thank you for an amazing day yesterday ❤️

Get • 🌊🌿 What an absolutely incredible day coastal foraging in Fife today!

Spent the day with Jayson from and came away with so much knowledge and appreciation for the incredible world of seaweed. His depth of understanding around the different species, their uses, and the vital role they play within our tidal ecosystems was fascinating — a real wealth of knowledge.

There’s something special about slowing down, tuning into the coastline, and seeing nature through a completely different lens. 🌊🍃

To top it all off, we finished the day with an amazing foraged meal, packed full of the flavours we’d been learning about — absolutely delicious! 🍽️✨

A brilliant reminder of how reconnecting with nature can ground you, inspire you, and leave you feeling completely recharged.

Already looking forward to the next adventure! 🌿💚
