🙏 Novena of Prayer 🙏
Day 2: Genesis

Today, we continue our annual Novena of Prayer to our patron, St Columba, abbot and evangelical missionary who continues to guide all the works of The Columba Community. As we journey together in prayer over these nine days may we be inspired by the lives of St Columba and all the Celtic Saints of The Golden Age who remind us of the importance of the building up of Basic Christian Communities in creating His Kingdom here on earth.

Colmcille the Scribe
Columba had a great reverence for Scripture both reading and writing it. He was certainly the main scribe in the completion of the Cathach a major work now preserved in the Library of the Royal Irish Academy in Dublin. Colmcille (Columba) played a major role in the development of the monastic system in Ireland in the 6th to the 12th centuries (the Golden Age) founding monastaries in Derry, Durrow and Kells with an emphasis on scripture, love of nature, contemplation and muintearas (community, friendship and relationships) During his stay on Iona one third of the monks’ day was spent in the scriptorium studying and copying sacred writings. Three of our surviving illuminated books, Durrow, Lindisfarne and Kells all have Columban connections. After Columba’s death the community on Iona treated his books as relics by carrying them round with them in times of drought or when praying for safety during hazardous sea journeys.
Prayer
Father we thank you for the life of Columba and his great example to us of using his knowledge of reading and writing to spread your Word throughout the world. Tommy Mc Cay

🙏 Novena of Prayer beginning on this St Columba's Feast Day 🙏

Day 1: St Columba

A Message from Fr Neal (2021):

‘Lives of great men all remind us we can make our lives sublime. And departing leave behind us footprints in the sands of time.” ( Longfellow)

As a community of Prayer and Reconciliation, we are called to follow the example, the virtues, gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit as seen in our Patron Colmcille(Columba).

Each day , during the next 9 days of Novena we pray for the Health of the Earth as symbolized by our fresh drinking water spring at St. Anthony’s. We will also focus on one of the many gifts and virtues of Colm as outlined by Adamnan’s famous book on his life of Prophesies, healings, visions and miracles.

This Donegal, Derry man landed on Iona, Scotland on Pentecost Sunday 563 A.D. Because he knew repentance himself and forgiveness, Iona became known as “The island of Forgiveness and Healing” for pilgrims from near and far.

Prayer; Lord allow us to experience a New Spring; a renewed flow of Mercy from your wounded side that cleanses us and refreshes our hope after this time of isolation and loneliness. May each of us be the eyes, arms, hands and voice of your Mercy present to others. Amen

Remembering our beloved Fr Neal today on the anniversary of his ordination- rejoicing today with the Lord and the Celtic Saints.

Wherever you find yourself on the journey, pause for a moment, breathe and remember with love and kindness God's faithful servant, Fr Neal - for heaven surely rejoices today knowing his legacy lives on for generations to come in those that he loved and who loved him so in return.

"I wish to express my gratitude for all who have accompanied us on the journey. It was a different journey, no doubt, and often misunderstood and sometimes opposed. However, it was a noble journey and was always blessed...May you enjoy your own journey. Remember, life is what takes place as we wait for something else to happen. May that something else for you be the fullness that is stored up for us in Heaven.
Slan libh, Neal Carlin."

🔥 Pentecost Sunday 🔥

Beautiful and encouraging words from our dearest Fr Neal, truly, a prophet in his time x

"Lay people need to be standing up in churches. We need baptised people anointed in the spirit showing forth the gifts of God so that everyone is free and blessed.
We are all one.
There is no pyramid of gifts. One Holy Spirit. One God. One Priesthood... That is the Priesthood of all believers.
This Pentecost is the time to realise that you are called - called to a bigger mission - that what we are baptized into as infants we finally say 'YES' to as adults.
Let us begin to live with you alive within us!"
