It's a conversation

A walk with a friend

A hug

A laugh so hard you snort tea out of your nose

We don't generally get to choose what happens

But we do get to choose what happens next

My week has contained, amongst other things...
A blown out tyre
A spilled drink
A broken laptop

None of these were choices
But where my attention went afterwards was

Energy isn't magical or mystical-
It's just energy

And looking after your energy can be easy

- Taking a breath
- Going for a walk
- Laughing with loved ones
- Not replaying a frustration over & over
- Not letting a 5 minute problem become a 5 hour mood

Energy isn't just what we're carrying- it's what we continue to feed

So, today, are you taking your energy

Or

Yesterday morning threw a few curveballs

A tyre blowout
An unexpected repair bill
A long wait
And then, after all that, my morning mocha turned out to be a hot chocolate & when I tried to secure the loose lid, it popped off & spilled everywhere...
🫣

Now, none of those things were enough to ruin my day

But together?

They had the potential to set the tone for it

Because sometimes it's not the big things that drain us

It's the little frustrations that quietly build on top of each other until we're carrying them everywhere we go

Today was a reminder that energy hygiene isn't just about what we take on from other people

It's also about noticing what we're carrying forward ourselves

The tyre happened
The drink happened

But they didn't need to come with me into the woods

So instead, I listened to the stream
Watched the leaves dancing in the trees
Enjoyed the fresh air
And delighted in the fact that the rain waited until we got back to the car 😁

The frustrating bits were still true

They just weren't the whole story

What we keep feeding tends to grow

So I choose not to feed the frustration & redirect my energy instead

When it starts to feel like you're having a "bad day" how do you respond?-

If I'm honest (& I am)
These are all tried & tested ways.. for some

Grounding is really just connecting with the present moment instead of being stuck in yesterday, next week, or the umpteen things on your to-do list

So the best way to ground yourself
Is the way that works for you

Grass, cuddly trees, & pretzel legs are optional

It can look like
~ pulling weeds
~ going for a walk
~ doing the washing up
~ folding laundry
~ making a cuppa...

Nothing mystical
Nothing dramatic
Nothing complicated

Just anything that gets your attention back to where your feet are instead of where your worries are

So simple but so effective!
