SEND Update – Monday 23rd February 2026
Today the Schools White Paper has been published. It is titled “Every Child Achieving and Thriving.”

This is the government’s vision document for education reform, including SEND.

Here’s what that actually means in real terms:
“Every Child Achieving and Thriving” is not a law.
It is a policy document, not legislation.
It sets out ideas, proposals, and long-term plans not new rules.

It does not change legal rights today.
It does not remove EHCP protections.
It does not replace SEND law.

Important facts:
No SEND law has changed
EHCPs are still legally protected
Tribunal rights still exist
Statutory duties still apply
No support has been removed
No child is losing provision today
Nothing is changing overnight

This publication is the start of a process, not the end of one.
Any real changes would require:
• Consultation
• Legal drafting
• Parliamentary approval
• Time
• Phased implementation

Which means families still have:
🤍 Rights
🤍 Legal protections
🤍 Safeguards
🤍 A voice
🤍 Time
🤍 Space to challenge
🤍 Space to respond

We will take time to read, break down, and explain what this means in plain language, without panic, fear, or misinformation.

This page will always stand for:
🧩 Children first
🧩 Families first
🧩 Rights first
🧩 Protection first
🧩 Truth over fear
🧩 Calm over chaos
🧩 Clarity over confusion

You are not alone.
Your child’s support still matters.
Your rights still matter.
Your voice still matters.

White paper update. I have been scrolling the media the last few days. There is a lot of media coverage and strong headlines around SEND reform right now, and it can feel overwhelming.

Most of what is being shared is about proposals, discussions, and possible future changes — not new laws. Nothing has legally changed, and all current rights, EHCP protections, and tribunal processes remain in place.

These conversations are part of a long policy process that includes consultation, public input, and phased implementation over several years. Families are not losing support overnight, and children’s legal protections still stand.

This page will continue to share clear, factual information without fear, panic, or misinformation

SEND White Paper Update:

There’s a lot of noise online right now about SEND changes and the White Paper, and it’s understandable that families are feeling worried.

Right now, no new law has been passed and no legal rights have changed.

✔ EHCPs still exist
✔ Tribunal rights still exist
✔ Statutory protections are still in place
✔ Support duties remain the same

What we’re seeing at the moment are proposals, discussions and plans, not legislation. A public consultation will happen before anything becomes law and families, professionals and young people will have a voice in that process.

Reform does not automatically mean removal of support. It should mean better inclusion, earlier help, and systems that actually work for children and families and we will challenge anything that risks safety, rights, or access to education.

This page will always:
🧩 Share clear, factual information
🧩 Avoid fear-based posts
🧩 Support families, not panic them
🧩 Explain changes in plain language
🧩 Stand for children’s rights and protections

You are not losing everything overnight.
Your child’s support is not suddenly disappearing.
Your voice still matters.

Sunday evenings can feel heavy

For many SEND families, Sunday evenings bring worry about school, routines, transitions, meetings, or how the week ahead might go.

If that’s you, a gentle reminder:
You don’t need to solve next week tonight.
One small step is enough. Laying out clothes, writing one note, or simply resting is okay.

This page is here to help things feel a little clearer, one step at a time 🌱

Happy saturday.

If today feels like a lot, please know this:

You don’t need to “catch up” with anyone else’s version of progress.

Every child, every family and every journey looks different. What matters is what works for you and your child.

You are doing enough.

One small SEND tip that can really help

If you have an upcoming SEND meeting, review or conversation with a school or college, one thing I always recommend is this:

Write down your three main points beforehand.
Not everything just the three most important things you want the meeting to focus on.
When emotions are high or conversations drift, having those points written down can help you stay grounded and ensure the key issues don’t get missed.

It doesn’t need to be perfect. It just needs to reflect what matters most to you and your child.
This is something I’ll come back to often small steps can make a big difference 🌱

Hope you have a lovely friday evening.

💛 A quick thank you — and a gentle reminder 💛

I just wanted to take a moment this evening to say thank you to everyone who has followed and supported The Bridge Between. Your support is genuinely appreciated.

It’s been a full-on time personally, as I’m currently navigating parts of the SEND system with my own son. It’s a reminder even with professional knowledge how emotionally and practically demanding these processes can be for families.

One piece of advice I want to share tonight is this:

you don’t have to hold everything at once.
If you’re dealing with paperwork, meetings, deadlines or appeals, it’s okay to take things step by step. Write things down. Ask for clarification. Take breaks when you need to. Feeling overwhelmed doesn’t mean you’re failing it means the system is heavy.

This page is here to offer clarity, reassurance and support for families and educators and more guidance and resources will be shared here very soon.

Thank you for being here
