Could you use your professional administrative skills to make a lasting impact in your community?
If you’re keen to use your expertise as a volunteer and give your time to a charity that improves lives, we’d love to hear from you.
We’re looking for an organised, proactive person to join our Board and play a key administrative role in the running of FOSMH, a well-respected charity supporting your local community hospital and other local causes.

You’ll work closely with the Chair and trustees to coordinate meetings, prepare agendas and minutes, maintain records, and help ensure the charity operates effectively.

Time commitment: a few flexible hours a week, plus attendance at Board meetings around every two months.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone with administrative, governance, legal, business, NHS or public sector experience who wants to give something back.

Previous trustee experience isn’t essential—we’ll provide one to one support, arrange training and an induction programme. You do need IT skills and knowledge.

Since 2005, Rob and Christine Burn have cared for the garden at St Monica’s Hospital, our local community hospital on Long Street. They say they consider it to be part of their own garden and take great pride in keeping it looking so beautiful. It is enjoyed by patients, visitors and staff alike and is a peaceful place which is often a place of retreat which is so needed when loved ones are in hospital, especially if near end of life. Visitors always say how wonderful the gardens look and what comfort they can bring.
The Burns not only keep the grass neat, clear the leaves in autumn and fill the planters with fantastic displays but have fitted bird, insect and even hedgehog boxes. It is a haven for wildlife.
Rob and Christine wanted to mark over 20 years of their involvement with our wonderful community hospital so the Trustees of the Friends of St Monica's Hospital (FOSMH) worked with them and together bought a beautiful new bench to place in the garden. To mark the occasion, Trustees also presented a plaque for the bench and hosted a thank you event with coffee and cakes on Thursday 16 July 2026. A hanging basket for their own garden was presented to Rob and Christine to mark our appreciation for all their efforts over so many years.
The photographs include the Trustees of FOSMH and the new Chair, Jane Wintermeyer and Rob and Christine Burn sitting on the new bench.

We are currently looking to appoint two new Trustees to join our Board.

In particular, we would welcome applications from people interested in taking on the role of Honorary Secretary or supporting our work in Publicity and Communications. We’re looking for two enthusiastic individuals who can bring fresh ideas, new perspectives, and a willingness to support our local NHS hospital in these challenging times.

We held our AGM at the Galtres Centre on 21st May 2026. It was David Kenworthy’s last meeting as Chair of Trustees. He was thanked for all his work over the last seven years, and he will be sorely missed.

A planning application has been submitted to replace/double glaze the windows at the hospital on Long Street to stop the draughts. This work is necessary to improve facilities for both patients and staff.

As well as funding services for hospital patients, a total of £75,686 has been paid out over the year in grants to local organisations to support health and well-being projects.

The incoming Chair, Jane Wintermeyer, and Vice Chair, Angie Bussey, will be working hard with the rest of the team to promote and support both the hospital and the local community with their health and wellbeing.

We shall be seeking new Trustees soon – in particular, for a Secretary and for a Communications Trustee. If you might be interested, drop us a DM!

More details of the meeting are included in the Minutes which will be published soon on the FOSMH website. If you want to know about happenings at the hospital or would like to support the Charity, you can also enrol as a member here.
