🫀 HOW CAN WE IMPROVE SURVIVAL FROM CARDIAC ARREST IN THE UK?

Fewer than 1 in 10 people survive an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in the UK.

So what can we do to improve this?

The answer starts with ordinary people knowing what to do.

❤️ More people trained in CPR
👀 Recognising cardiac arrest quickly
🫀 Starting good-quality CPR quickly
⚡ Using an AED as soon as possible

Defibrillation within 3–5 minutes of collapse may produce survival rates as high as 50–70%.

⏰ Every minute matters.

Countries such as Denmark and Sweden have shown what can happen when CPR training, bystander intervention and access to AEDs are increased.

🇬🇧 Could the UK do more?

I believe we can.

Because when cardiac arrest happens, the first person able to help is often not a paramedic or doctor.

It could be you.

At AJP Training, I'm working to make lifesaving training more accessible and affordable locally.

❤️ WHAT IF THE PERSON WHO NEEDS CPR IS YOU?

Imagine someone suddenly collapses at home.

They aren't breathing normally.

Would you know what to do?

Would someone in your household know?

The British Heart Foundation highlights some worrying figures:

🔴 Only 3 in 10 people feel confident performing CPR.
🔴 Around 25 million people in the UK have never learnt CPR.
🔴 Around 80% of cardiac arrests happen at home.
🔴 Only 58% of households have at least one person trained in CPR.

So here's the question:

If you had a cardiac arrest at home tonight, would someone there know how to help you?

You don't need to be a medical professional to learn lifesaving skills.

At AJP Training, I want to make First Aid and CPR training affordable and accessible to local people.

I offer training for employers, community groups and charities, as well as book-on courses for individuals.

🫀 NEW Basic Life Support courses launching in 2027.

If you'd like to learn CPR or Basic Life Support, leave a ❤️ or comment below and I'll let you know when the new courses are available.

Because one day, the person you need to save could be someone you love.

❤️ What a great first FREE CPR & AED Awareness session!

Today I delivered my first free session at Wells Place, Eastleigh, as part of Resuscitation Council UK’s Restart a Heart campaign.

I had 7 eager learners, many of whom had never performed CPR before, or had only learnt it as a child.

Some had very personal reasons for wanting to learn — including caring for a relative or having experienced their own health issues.

This is exactly why I offered these free sessions. People may know the theory, but not everyone gets the opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience and build their confidence.

We covered:
🫀 Recognising cardiac arrest
❤️ Cardiac arrest vs heart attack
🚑 The updated Primary Survey
⚡ AED awareness and how to use one
💡 Hints and tips for responding in an emergency

Everyone got to practise CPR and use an AED on a range of resuscitation equipment, including adult, junior and baby manikins.

We also used my VR headset to introduce realistic emergency scenarios.

Everyone received a certificate of attendance, and I'm delighted that one learner has already booked my Emergency First Aid at Work course for her local drama group on 17 November at Wells Place, at just £40 per person.

One learner said she had “done a workout and learnt something new!” 😄

❤️ My next FREE session is Tuesday 20th October, 9:30am–12:30pm at Wells Place, Eastleigh — and there are now only 2 places left!

If you've always thought “I really should learn CPR”, this could be your opportunity.

Don't wait until you need the skill. Learn it before you need it.

Let me reintroduce myself…

I’m Alison J Pugh, owner of AJP Training.

I started my business in 2023 after deciding it was time for a new chapter following more than 30 years working in Health and Social Care.

During that time, I spent over 20 years working for Hampshire County Council, as well as working as a Training Manager for large national care companies.

Training has always been a huge part of my career, and in 2023 I decided I wanted to take all that experience and use it to build something of my own.

I set up AJP Training with a simple aim: to provide high-quality, practical first aid training that is accessible to local people and businesses.

I originally planned to travel across Hampshire and Dorset, but over the last few months I have realised that I want to focus much more on my own local area.

I have been very fortunate recently to make some great connections and find venues that allow me to keep my prices affordable.

I’m also always interested in working with local businesses or organisations that could provide a suitable training venue in exchange for a free place on a course.

My aim is simple – to make first aid training more accessible to people in our local communities.

Whether you are a small business, charity, community group, club or an individual who simply wants to learn lifesaving skills, I would love to hear from you.

You never know when those skills might be needed – and being trained could help you save a life.

If you are local to Eastleigh or the surrounding area and would like to discuss training, a venue partnership or a course for your organisation, please get in touch.
